The Australian International Design Awards are apparently a pretty big deal. Over 232 Australian and International products are assessed on their physical attributes. In the Automotive category, the Audi A7 was picked was the best design for 2011. The car is pretty hot, but the best design? The judges seemed to think so. Audi Australia Director Uwe Hagen stated, “Good design and aesthetic excellence is a core pillar of Audi’s brand ethos, and this award confirms the outstanding position of the A7 Sportback within the field of automotive design, and the excellent response from our customers confirms the appeal of this car.”

The last time there was an avant only RS4 the USA was skipped over. That was back with the B5 RS4 and some people still hold a grudge until today (we certainly do). It would appear that Audi is going to release the B8 RS4 only as a wagon and that does not bode well for its chances of making it to the USA. Additionally, it seems it will be sharing the Audi RS5 V8. Kind of boring really, as it should get the new turbocharged 4.0 liter V8. How much longer is Audi going to keep cranking out that same old 4.2 liter V8 which is already over-matched?

A 12 cylinder A8 is now available. The $134,475 car is powered by a 6.3 liter W12 with 500 horsepower and 463 pound-feet of torque. The motor is naturally aspirated, unlike its V12 rivals from Mercedes and BMW. No doubt a great car that is richly appointed but it likely makes sense to get the upcoming S8 with the turbo V8 and save yourself the cash. Although, it's hard not to like a big naturally aspirated motor especially with 12 cylinders. Oh, and it is coming to the USA. ...Published on 07-23-2011 02:54 AM
We know the Audi Q6 coming. One of the reasons that Audi will be opening a USA plant is due to the Q6. The car will likely share the Cayenne platform which it will borrow heavily from. Audi simply is not content sitting around and allowing BMW to have the market all to itself with the X6 in the "coupe" style SUV segment. We will be seeing many more models like this from Audi and even possibly a Q4 as they continue their determined march toward taking the top luxury sport from BMW. ...Published on 07-22-2011 02:45 AM
EPL (European Performance Labs) in conjunction with Heffner performance has released a HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) upgrade for Audi R8 4.2 V8. As you should know, the R8 4.2 is direct injected. Direct injected cars have some difficulty upgrading their fueling but EPL has figured out a solution for the R8. EPL ECU tuning combined with two upgraded fuel pumps allow the Heffner R8 V8 twin turbo to now hit 8.5 psi no longer being fuel starved. This provided an additional 50 horsepower at the wheels. ...Published on 07-21-2011 12:13 AM
You should know by now the A5 got a facelift. It isn't coming to the USA yet (it will eventually) only to Europe first but that should not stop us from getting an idea of all the changes. This video does a good overview highlighting all the changes showing an angle of the previous model and then the same angle with the facelifted model. The new design is definitely a step up all the way around. ...Published on 07-19-2011 03:42 PM
Hopefully you remember the Audi R8 V12 TDI concept. If not, here is a quick refresher. Audi put a 6.0 liter twin turbo V12 in the R8 as a link to its R10 Le Mans race car. They never built it, but it seems someone has attempted to do the swap themselves. Or at least that is how it appeared. These pictures were posted around the web but turns out it was just a big hoax. Kind of mean to play with enthusiasts that way. Oh well, we can keep dreaming but at least this has gotten people thinking about an R8 with a big diesel again.

With BMW set to enter the DTM fray with their M3 Audi is responding by preparing their A5 concept race car. The car is known internally as the 'R17' race car. It will feature a high-strength carbon-fiber monocoque combined with a steel tube cage. There will be other changes for 2012 to meet new regulations such as a larger rear wing and other aerodynamics changes. The 4.0 liter V8 and 6-speed transmission will be lifted from the A4 unchanged. This car will race in the 2012 season and will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. ...Published on 07-17-2011 04:31 AM
We do not know what it is as of late, but German pick-ups are all the rage. From the BMW X5 pickup renderings to the M3 pickup it seems we can not get away from this topic. Someone with a Q7 apparently liked the idea enough to add a truck bed to their Q7. We do not know where this Q7 came from and would like to get more photos and details. Details and explanation from the owner would not hurt as well. ...Published on 07-16-2011 05:12 AM
Audi seems intent to let everyone know at Frankfurt they mean business and are becoming a major global auto player. A $14.3 million dollar temporary hall to show off certainly is going to get them some attention. The 15,000 square foot booth on steroids is being constructed by a German firm and will feature a 400 meter long test track running through it. You will be able to test drive cars right there in the Audi hall. A lot of coin for a temporary structure but we hope Audi is setting a trend others will follow by taking the car show experience to the next level. ...Published on 07-16-2011 01:11 AM
This is kind of an odd comparison as the cars are not exactly direct rivals. The CLS and A7 are a natural comparison but not when it is the CLS500 vs. the supercharged V6 A7. The S7 is going to be the car that competes with the CLS550 since it will also have a turbocharged V8. The Jaguar XJ isn't a 4 door coupe and is more of an A8 and S-class competitor. So, the cars are not really positioned against each other all that well but they end up picking the CLS550 which was also the fastest car. The Audi was the best handling. ...Published on 07-15-2011 02:32 AM
This is a pretty interesting project that no doubt is not going to be easy. The owner, Bryan Whitmore, sourced Advanced Technologies, HT Motorsport and EFI Express to complete swapping in the C5 RS6 twin turbo 4.2 liter V8 into his 2007 B7 RS4. The motor is fully built featuring JE Pistons, IE rods, and other hardware from ARP. He is aiming for 700 horsepower at all 4 wheels. We wish him luck! ...Published on 07-13-2011 01:31 PM
Here is the facelifted Audi A5. Frankly, we didn't think the car needed a facelift but the results are impressive and keep the model fresh. The changes to the headlights should be apparent to everyone and the front and rear fascias are modified as well. The most important changes are that the S5 will ditch the 4.2 V8 in favor of the 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 from the S4. Don't go get in a hurry to order, these changes are for Europe only for now and the lineup remains unchanged in the USA for at least the rest of the year. That also means the DSG trans in all the Quattro cars may not carry over. ...Published on 07-13-2011 04:41 AM
No secret Audi is trying to expand as fast as possible to catch and pass BMW. In order for that to happen, a plant in the US is a necessity. Audi CEO Rupert Stadler confirmed a North American plant will be built. During an interview with the Automotive News he stated, "It is totally clear that we need new production capacity in the U.S., the question only is when." What will be rolling off the lines? SUV's mostly, likely the upcoming Audi Q6. ...Published on 07-12-2011 07:30 PM
Anyone else bummed out about this? Yes, the Q3 is a tiny little SUV and apparently the Audi brass thinks it is too small for the US market. We consider this a downer since Audi teased a high performance version of the Q3 which is destined for production. For performance enthusiasts, it would have been a nice entry level performance SUV option. Audi still tends to withhold a good amount of models from the American public which we hoped was a trend that would change after the TT-RS. Oh well, hopefully we still get a performance version of the Q5. ...
