Last month we reported that the Mercedes AMG brand was a likely buyer for Italian motorcycle produce Ducati. AMG is a logical choice as they would like to have competition for BMW Motorrad. In an interesting twist, Audi is entering the Ducati sweestakes. Why Audi and not VW? Well, technically the brand would be under the VW halo but Audi has a motorcycle history. Also, clearly Audi wants to compete with BMW's bikes as well. Is this simply a move to drive the price up beyond what AMG is willing to pay for it? The price is now rumored to be over the billion dollar range. We'll see who wins or blinks first. ...Published on 03-11-2012 12:23 AM
We really like the things APR does. One thing we do not like about them though is the dyno's that they post which show crank figures. Would it really kill them to show us the numbers at the wheels as it should be? Regardless, on 93 octane fuel their baseline horsepower number for the TT-RS is 375 and after the tune on the same fuel the number is 414. Torque figures are boosted from 365 to 430. This tune is available for all TT-RS models, North American cars need to send their ECU in. ...Published on 03-09-2012 07:29 PM
Supersprint makes a quality product for a variety of German vehicles. It does not come cheap but we are glad they make these parts or else we would not have options such as this. The photos below are from the development manifolds and are not the final version. What we want to see is pricing information as well as a dyno to show the gains. Looking at the factory part versus what Supersprint is doing, it looks like there is room to improve upon the factory design considerably. We will update you when we get more information.

The new A3 was just revealed and it is a great, albeit cautious/repetitive, design. Audi CEO Rupert Stadler revealed in Geneva that a plug-in hybrid is definitely in the cards for the new A3. Well, we know Europe will get it. What about the USA? Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen when asked about it coming to the USA replied, "it would be our intention to bring the full range of technologies." Ok, that is fine with us and we see the appeal of such a model. Just please do not ditch the next generation RS3 in lieu of producing a hybrid. ...Published on 03-06-2012 03:02 AM
Well after a ton of teasers and leaks we finally have the real deal, the new next generation 2013 Audi A3. The car is taking on styling cues from all the other models that have received updated headlights in the Audi lineup. Frankly, this headlight style being on the refreshed A4 and A5 makes all these Audi models blur together a bit too much. Expect a 2.0T and a DSG when the car goes on sale in the USA late this year. Fingers crossed that we get a new RS3 and with the pressure Mercedes is applying in the segment, chances look good. ...Published on 03-02-2012 11:01 PM
So, you should all know that Audi will be racing two hybrid diesel cars in Le Mans this year. Definitely cool to see hybrid technology taken to the highest level of endurance racing but we are concerned if these cars are up to rigors of a 24 hour race it will hurt Audi's chances of repeating. Regardless, these cars are packed with technology. They are powered at all four wheels with one axle getting grunt from the electric motor (100 horsepower) and the other from the diesel motor (510 horsepower). ...Published on 02-25-2012 08:32 PM
The TT-RS is a very quick little car, especially from a stop where its launch control with DSG is allowed to shine. The TT-RS in this video below is said to be stock and the M3 is said to be modded although we do not know what mods it has. It does not have enough horsepower however to overcome the disadvantage on the launch to the TT-RS though it does start to reel it in up top. The M3 also sounds like it is a manual during the gear changes which is a bit of a penalty. Goes to how how effective a dual clutch with all wheel drive is from a stop. Too bad Audi did not offer this gearbox in the USA. ...Published on 02-21-2012 08:25 PM
Here is the first graph we have seen of a stock internal Heffners twin turbo R8 5.2. EPL (European Performance Labs) tuned the car as Heffners Performance was not able to crack the stock ECU. The high 600's on stock internals is a bit underwhelming although that curve is gorgeous. Considering where Gallardo's are with twin turbo setups the R8 5.2 V10 is lagging a bit behind due to the difficulty in tuning them it seems. We hope to see built motor numbers soon.

The RS5 is coming soon, very soon, as in this Spring to the United States. In preparation for its arrival Audi released this video teaser. It shows the RS5 going through the desert and looking gorgeous doing it. As a reminder, the RS5 will have 450 horsepower from a 4.2 liter high revving direct injected V8 mated to a DSG (dual clutch) gearbox. No pricing yet (likely $80k+) and production will be very limited so do not expect to see these everywhere. Thanks for bringing it to the USA Audi! ...Published on 02-16-2012 03:16 AM
All the big reveals seem to be taking place on the internet before the Geneva show. We were excited to get a rendering of this car yesterday based on the production bumper pieces only for the real thing to be released a few hours later. The final product is simply gorgeous and typical Audi quality inside and out. A 450 horsepower 8250 rpm 4.2 liter V8 mated to a dual clutch DSG gearbox makes for one seriously badass wagon. We will not be getting it in the USA but we will get the RS5 which is a fine consolation prize. ...Published on 02-15-2012 02:04 AM
The B8 Audi RS4 is coming just not to the United States. It will basically share the Audi RS5 drivetrain so that means a 4.2 liter V8 with 450 horsepower and DSG (dual clutch transmission). Sibal based his rendering on bumper pieces that were leaked out. The pieces seem to in fact be genuine which gives us an idea of the styling that will be employed in the B8 RS4. How these pictures of finished bumper pieces got out on a car that is not out yet is anyone's guess. ...Published on 02-09-2012 10:50 PM
Audi has done a remarkable job in Le Mans essentially dominating the event for over a decade now. Audi is embracing a new approach and adding a hybrid powertrain to their champion R18 TDI. Will a hybrid win Le Mans? It would be a remarkable feat and go a long way to silencing hybrid doubters. Still, balancing the rules in a way that do not favor the hybrids will not be easy. Also, this means Audi will be cutting their solely diesel powered LMP1 entries in half and considering Audi lost two cars last year to unfortunate incidents betting on the hybrids picking up the slack should something go wrong may prove to be a major strategic mistake. ...Published on 02-08-2012 08:00 AM
It sure looks to us like GIAC forced APR to revise their 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 tunes. You may remember that GIAC has made some big waves in the Audi 3.0 TFSI tuning scene recently by showing gains in the 100 all wheel horsepower range for their software. These gains were larger than any other gains we had seen on this motor including APR's. APR has now revised their software (coincidence? We don't think so) with Version 2.0. ...Published on 02-07-2012 07:51 AM
Well, this is kind of disappointing but at least the model is not cancelled. The B8 RS4 will be wagon only with no manual option sharing the 450 horsepower V8 out of the RS5 as well as its dual clutch transmission. This pretty much eliminates the chances for the RS4 coming to the United States as wagons do not sell well here and we will be passed over again just as we were with the B5 RS4. Not as big of a deal this time though as this vehicle will not offer much of anything that one can not get in a B7 RS4 other than the dual clutch transmission. ...Published on 02-05-2012 01:00 PM
We are paying more attention to MRC Tuning these days after seeing their impressive B7 RS4 supercharger in action. This is a before and after dyno tune of a V10 Audi R8. The dyno used is a Cartec which we are not familiar with but it shows power at the crank, wheels, as well as the losses. Baseline was 514.7 wheel horsepower and after the tune it was 559.2 wheel horsepower making for an impressive gain of 44.5 wheel horsepower. A stage 2 setup is being tested as well shown in the video below. ...
