So, you should all know that Audi will be racing two hybrid diesel cars in Le Mans this year. Definitely cool to see hybrid technology taken to the highest level of endurance racing but we are concerned if these cars are up to rigors of a 24 hour race it will hurt Audi's chances of repeating. Regardless, these cars are packed with technology. They are powered at all four wheels with one axle getting grunt from the electric motor (100 horsepower) and the other from the diesel motor (510 horsepower). ...

The TT-RS is a very quick little car, especially from a stop where its launch control with DSG is allowed to shine. The TT-RS in this video below is said to be stock and the M3 is said to be modded although we do not know what mods it has. It does not have enough horsepower however to overcome the disadvantage on the launch to the TT-RS though it does start to reel it in up top. The M3 also sounds like it is a manual during the gear changes which is a bit of a penalty. Goes to how how effective a dual clutch with all wheel drive is from a stop. Too bad Audi did not offer this gearbox in the USA. ...

Here is the first graph we have seen of a stock internal Heffners twin turbo R8 5.2. EPL (European Performance Labs) tuned the car as Heffners Performance was not able to crack the stock ECU. The high 600's on stock internals is a bit underwhelming although that curve is gorgeous. Considering where Gallardo's are with twin turbo setups the R8 5.2 V10 is lagging a bit behind due to the difficulty in tuning them it seems. We hope to see built motor numbers soon.

The RS5 is coming soon, very soon, as in this Spring to the United States. In preparation for its arrival Audi released this video teaser. It shows the RS5 going through the desert and looking gorgeous doing it. As a reminder, the RS5 will have 450 horsepower from a 4.2 liter high revving direct injected V8 mated to a DSG (dual clutch) gearbox. No pricing yet (likely $80k+) and production will be very limited so do not expect to see these everywhere. Thanks for bringing it to the USA Audi! ...

All the big reveals seem to be taking place on the internet before the Geneva show. We were excited to get a rendering of this car yesterday based on the production bumper pieces only for the real thing to be released a few hours later. The final product is simply gorgeous and typical Audi quality inside and out. A 450 horsepower 8250 rpm 4.2 liter V8 mated to a dual clutch DSG gearbox makes for one seriously badass wagon. We will not be getting it in the USA but we will get the RS5 which is a fine consolation prize. ...

The B8 Audi RS4 is coming just not to the United States. It will basically share the Audi RS5 drivetrain so that means a 4.2 liter V8 with 450 horsepower and DSG (dual clutch transmission). Sibal based his rendering on bumper pieces that were leaked out. The pieces seem to in fact be genuine which gives us an idea of the styling that will be employed in the B8 RS4. How these pictures of finished bumper pieces got out on a car that is not out yet is anyone's guess. ...

Audi has done a remarkable job in Le Mans essentially dominating the event for over a decade now. Audi is embracing a new approach and adding a hybrid powertrain to their champion R18 TDI. Will a hybrid win Le Mans? It would be a remarkable feat and go a long way to silencing hybrid doubters. Still, balancing the rules in a way that do not favor the hybrids will not be easy. Also, this means Audi will be cutting their solely diesel powered LMP1 entries in half and considering Audi lost two cars last year to unfortunate incidents betting on the hybrids picking up the slack should something go wrong may prove to be a major strategic mistake. ...

It sure looks to us like GIAC forced APR to revise their 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 tunes. You may remember that GIAC has made some big waves in the Audi 3.0 TFSI tuning scene recently by showing gains in the 100 all wheel horsepower range for their software. These gains were larger than any other gains we had seen on this motor including APR's. APR has now revised their software (coincidence? We don't think so) with Version 2.0. ...

Well, this is kind of disappointing but at least the model is not cancelled. The B8 RS4 will be wagon only with no manual option sharing the 450 horsepower V8 out of the RS5 as well as its dual clutch transmission. This pretty much eliminates the chances for the RS4 coming to the United States as wagons do not sell well here and we will be passed over again just as we were with the B5 RS4. Not as big of a deal this time though as this vehicle will not offer much of anything that one can not get in a B7 RS4 other than the dual clutch transmission. ...

We are paying more attention to MRC Tuning these days after seeing their impressive B7 RS4 supercharger in action. This is a before and after dyno tune of a V10 Audi R8. The dyno used is a Cartec which we are not familiar with but it shows power at the crank, wheels, as well as the losses. Baseline was 514.7 wheel horsepower and after the tune it was 559.2 wheel horsepower making for an impressive gain of 44.5 wheel horsepower. A stage 2 setup is being tested as well shown in the video below. ...

Supersprint has released their full modular exhaust system for the Audi A7 3.0 TFSI. The system consists of either street or long tube race headers, downpipes with or without cats, X-pipe, and rear mufflers with 100mm tips. No dyno graphs for the full system released yet (or even claimed gains) and no pricing numbers either. The system is 100% 304 stainless steel with an unlimited warranty. ...

The diesel competition is heating up as Audi unveils their powerful new 3.0 liter V6 bi-turbo diesel sporting a healthy 309 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. This motor is not quite as strong as BMW's new 381 horsepower tri-turbo 3.0 liter 6 cylinder offering but we definitely are liking the diesel competition forcing everyone to up their game. This motor in an A6 sedan offers a conservative 5.1 second sprint to 60 mph and an incredible 37.7 MPG. Europeans will have this motor of course but if it does not come to the USA we are really going to lose it as this would make for the second awesome new German diesel motor we get passed over for.

Audi is not slowing doing any time soon and adding more models to the mix. The Q4 is not surprising as this crossover segment is one that will see heavy competition from BMW which is preparing an X4 and Mercedes with a GLC. A cabrio version of the A1 is also not all that surprising. What is a bit of a shock though is Audi going much further upscale with an A9 sedan designed to compete with the top of the line Mercedes S600 Pullman that will be coming to fill the void left by Maybach. Expect the A9 to be revealed in 2013. ...

Here is the official release for the GIAC B8 S5 and S5 3.0 direct injected supercharged V6 software. We reported on this software producing huge gains last week. GIAC in their product release comments on this somewhat saying the gains previously seen are among the highest a customer might get. It almost seems as if they are admitting the run was a glory run not applicable to what others might see. We think GIAC should get a few more runs and post graphs that may be a better representation of what most customers will get rather than knowingly putting up a graph they themselves confirm is one of the highest they have seen for tune with intake on 91 pump. ...

This car/motor depicted here belongs to a guy who goes by the name of Guruman. He is taking his motor the next level hoping to crack the 1000 horsepower mark. This is a fully built 2.9 liter (up from the original 2.7) which revs to 9k with ported heads, custom cams, solid lifters, and a ferrea valve train. The turbo is a precision 6766 twin scroll 1.0 BB/Billet with twin 46mm wastegates running off a custom thin wall 321 racing Agtronic manifold setup. Nice to see someone pushing the 2.7 bi-turbo to the limit rather than just swapping in a VR6. ...

Here is a very nicely done video from MRC Tuning highlighting their supercharger for the B7 RS4. Are you in North America and have not heard of MRC tuning? That is likely because they are based out of the UK but videos like this are done precisely for the reason of getting the name out there. The supercharger costs 13,000 British Pounds which converts to roughly $20,000 meaning this supercharger is unlikely to become a popular option in the USA but the more options for the platform the merrier. ...
