The German website http://automobilwoche.de is reporting that head of development on the new R8 claims maximum weight savings and maximum rigidity are the goal with the R8 update in 2014. Audi will be using carbon fiber and aluminum in the chassis to drop weight of about 220 pounds (or around 100 kilograms) which is quite a bit shaved off. Torsional rigidity is stated to increase by 30% to 40,000 Nm (29,498 lb-ft) which is actually more than the figures for the 458 Italia and Aventador. Nice to see Audi pursuing lightweight technologies with their cars having traditionally been the heaviest out of the German makes. BMW, what is going on when Audi's are getting lighter and you are getting heavier?

It looks like Audi will be producing an RS1. Excited? Don't be, since the USA will be excluded not that this is up their on our list of RS models we would like. Regardless, the car is expected to have around 220 horsepower from a 2.0T motor mated to all wheel drive with a 6 speed gearbox. This sure would be a fun little car to drive around, try giving the US market a chance for small cars Audi.

We already had a general idea of the next generation A3 thanks to the sedan concept from Geneva. AutoExpress brings us renderings of the hatchback which, no surprise, looks just like the sedan. There will be four body styles of the new A3; a five door hatch, 3 door hatch, sedan, and one that has not been announced (cab perhaps?). Audi is also going to offer an all electric A3 along with a hybrid version. That is great and all but we we are looking forward to is the RS3 sedan. Bring it Audi, bring it on.

As you know, Audi updated the RS5 for 2013. These changes include styling differences such as the front and rear lights. The engine also received a bump up to 450 horsepower which is mated to a dual clutch transmission. These changes will all carry over to a convertible version of the car which you can see was spotted testing below with basically no camouflage except an S5 badge instead of RS5.

We have reported several times that Audi was contemplating releasing a higher performance version of the Q5. These rumors died down a bit after the initial testing as Audi seemed to be contemplating the idea. Well, the car was caught out testing again with some revisions so it appears the Q5 S is the real deal. Expect to see a version of the B8 S4's 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 under the hood. Whether the motor will be mated to a DSG or automatic is anyone's guess but for an SUV an automatic makes more sense especially if one is to actually use it to tow. We think this model is a great move on Audi's part.

This advertisement is just kind of weird, no other way to put it. The A6 Avant is not available for sale in the USA and maybe that is a good thing if this is how Audi plans to advertise it. The commercial shows off a hummingbird flying around to opera music while sipping on fuel and apparently tripping out. Hey, we didn't make it up, Audi did. The ad concludes with Audi stating they are focusing on lightweight technology and hummingbirds are pretty light so that is the connection apparently. Europeans will probably dig it.

Congratulations to APR who continues to do great things at the drag strip. The vehicle here is a 2010 B8 S4 with DSG and 5,380 miles. Mods are the APR Stage 2+ with 100 octane, 1/8 tank of gas, Miltek exhaust, spare removed, and a larger heat exchanger. The car was launched without launch control yet produced an astounding 1.67 60 foot. Obviously with the car being all wheel drive it makes it rather easy to put the power down. Trap speed is a respectable 115 but we expect to see much more out of the B8's as more owners mod and get out to the strip.

APR just released their pulley and software upgrade for the previous generation C6 A6 which shares the supercharged 3.0 liter V6 of the S4. The A6 is a bit detuned and runs its power through an automatic transmission so it does not put out as much as the S4. Regardless, solid gains are available. In stock form the car puts down 255 to all four wheels. With the Stage II+ on 100 octane the A6 hits 345 all wheel horsepower for a gain of 90 horsepower to all four wheels. Impressive? Yes.

Front wheel drive for a top of the line luxury sedan? Odd, right? Well, Audi is doing exactly that in Europe but not in the US where the market would view it as cheap as rightfully so. Europeans don't have this same aversion to front wheel drive so many opt to save the $6500 that dropping Quattro nets you. Equipped with a 204 horsepower turbo diesel V6 the front wheel drive A8 makes it to 60 mph in around 8 seconds. Not exactly the performance one associates with the top sedan model offering but it does provide 39 MPG on the European cycle.

Well, the 2011 DTM season still has 1 race left but Martin Tomczyk has already wrapped up the driver's championship. It has been a hard fought year with things going back and forth between Tomczyk and Mercedes driver Burno Spengler but Audi has put together a string of dominating victories elevating their top drivers in the standings. The final race of the season is on the 23rd of this month at the Hockenheim in Germany where Tomczyk will be presented with his trophy.

The extent of my work with folding paper was making paper airplanes in class and throwing them at teachers and fellow students. This is a little bit more intricate. An artist by the name of Taras Lesko was commissioned by Audi of America to create a 4 foot long replica of the Audi A7. Why? Whatever, Audi has deep pockets so when they call you do it. The papercraft model has over 750 parts and is made up of 285 sheets of paper. A laser printer, X-Acto knife, two desktop cutting plotters, and glue were the tools used. Simply an incredible job.

The current Audi Q7 (4L) is simply a heavy pig at 5,291 pounds. Car and Driver reports Audi wishes to use a greater amount of aluminum in the next generation Q7 reducing weight by about 700 pounds. That is a lot of weight to lose but we like the thinking. Will they be able to shave that much off of it? We are not sure as that would mean they would be aiming for a sub 4600 pound curb weight which certainly is attainable. Porsche was able to shave over 400 pounds off the Cayenne so Audi is clearly thinking along the same lines. Shedding that kind of weight will have a much greater impact driving dynamics and performance than just adding horsepower.

Always great to see members with cars like this as after all, that is what this site is all about. This vehicle is a B5 Audi S4 with the 2.7 liter 30 valve V6 we all know and love. The car has a stock block, IE rods, built 2.8 head, stock heads, a Precision 6265 turbo, and EV14 750 lb injectors. On the 93 octane the car put down an impressive 425 to all four wheels. There is much more in it on high boost and we would love to see it turned up on race gas. Enjoy the pictures and videos below.

Well, it looks like Audi is beginning to take a commanding lead and pull away from Mercedes in DTM. Hot on the heels of their last 1-2-3 victory, Audi managed to repeat the feat again back to back. The race again was in the rain and the Audi's dominated the Mercedes' in the wet conditions. Martin Tomczyk was able to push to second place after starting in 14th to extend his lead in the driver standings. Winner Mattias Ekstrom was able to climb within 10 points of second place driver for Mercedes Bruno Spengler. Only two races remain and the pressure is now on Mercedes to make up ground.

DTM sure is going to be awesome next year. Mercedes moving to the C-coupe, BMW is coming back, and Audi will be racing their new A5. The mechanicals will basically carry from the A4 DTM car. That means a 460 or so horsepower 4.0 liter V8 and a 6 speed manual transmission. The 2012 cars will have a larger rear wing and other aerodynamic changes. A larger fuel tank also allows for an entire race to take place without any fueling stops. 2012 is going to be a great year for DTM.
