    • Weistec M177 / M178 W.3 twin turbo upgrade details - $12,499.99, 650 whp on 91 octane, 7500 rpm redline

Weistec was not kidding around regarding their M177/M178 turbo upgrade development when they said they started last year. Teaser photos were shared early this year and Weistec quietly and diligently worked on the upgrade. Well, here it is and they managed to deliver it before the end of 2015.

That is impressive considering most tuners tend to deliver upgrades late (if at all), not early, and rarely on time. The Weistec W.3 turbo upgrade takes the M178 in the AMG GT S to 650 wheel horsepower and 557 lb-ft of wheel torque on 91 octane pump gas.

It is important to note these are pump gas figures as there is obviously more in the turbos. Keep in mind this is also on the stock transmission. The car also features Weistec's supplemental bolt on modifications.

Now this turbo upgrade system is employed on the M178 in the AMG GT S and Weistec's car at SEMA earlier this month already had this turbo upgrade on it. This upgrade will of course also be available for the M177 in the W205 C63 AMG and S models. As the transmission is an MCT and not DCT it will be interesting to see if the C63 makes more torque with this upgrade.

The power curve features spool like the stock turbos just with more torque everywhere. The upgrade is even a bolt on affair maintaining stock like appearance. AMG GT or C63 sleeper anyone?

At $12,499.99 it certainly is not cheap but considering this is an application that has undergone significant testing and is essentially OEM level in development using the factory oil and coolant lines it is well worth the money.

We can not wait to see what it does on the track and how much further Weistec will push the M178. Transmission upgrades are no doubt up next to handle even more torque on race gas.

      KEY FEATURES:

      • Up to 650 Wheel Horsepower with supporting upgrades
      • 5 Axis CNC Machined
      • High RPM Balanced for perfection operation

      • Rev Limit for AMG GT / GTS increased to 7500 RPM

Yeah well do you want to see broken transmissions? Give it time.

650 whp on pump means this is everyday performance. Plus it should trap in the upper 130's.

yes. my point was 91 is piss so imagine what 93 or E85 would produce on the same turbos. There appears to be a good deal of headroom still available.

The impellers are quite large. I'd imagine ~800 is within reason. I don't know what the fuel system limit is currently.

Wow huge difference the car must feel great uptop and the extra 500 rpm helps keep the car in the powerband. With the stock 7K redline the car never drops below 5700rpm after second gear with the increase to 7500rpm it should always be ~6200rpm and above. I'm sure well see more of a typical turbo curve with the c63 being able to handle a lot more midrange torque with the MCT

        Exactly. This should settle it.

7500 rpm top mount twin turbo 4.0 liter V8 making mid 600's on pump with a ton more in it? Yeah, pretty easy.

Makes you wish this was a BMW engine.

Well the S63TU is actually pretty similar but with greater displacement. You have a BMW engine that offers this kind of upgrade potential it is just that it is mated to heavier cars.

$12,500 for machined housings and new wheels? What else do they include at this price? I'd sure as hell hope its a plug and play affair with all new lines, the tune, gaskets, etc... Where is Vargas, or any other turbo shop, to undercut this?

Its machined OEM housings with new wheels and I'd be willing to bet all the work is done third party... How is this any different than what RB or Vargas or TIAL or whoever does for one third the cost?

650whp on crap 91 oct. That is nuts. This motor has so much potential.

For reference Terry did 519whp with the S55 on 91 oct and Pure stage 2 turbos. It doesn't look good for the M3/M4 in the future.

        Well, several differences.

Weistec does the tuning AND the hardware. The package has been tested and developed as a whole.

Speaking of which (and I'm not even sure if I'm allowed to talk about this but whatever) Weistec had a development motor BEFORE the car even came out. If that doesn't show their reach I'm not sure what does.

If it was simple RB, Vargas, TIAL, etc., would compete on the platform. Weistec delivered this in the same year the damn C63 hit the streets. This isn't some five years later endeavor.

Honestly, they just are that damn good. If I could do it over my car would have gone to them.
