We are not going to name any names here but chances are there are a few M156 ECU's out there that look exactly like what you see here. This ECU was drenched in epoxy gunk which essentially ruined it without the owner knowing or providing consent for the ECU to be modified in this manner. The only way to remove the material to be able to tune the ECU was to use a CNC machine carefully to remove it over a period of a couple hours. It was a coin flip whether the board would be hit essentially creating an expensive paperweight but the ECU was able to be salvaged and tuned as the material was removed without hitting/damaging the board. Make sure you do not have to go through this ordeal with your ECU and be careful what tuner you go with.

This story has come out of nowhere and is being reported by Automotive News. Ernts Lieb has been relived from his position that he has held for the last 5 years as head of Mercedes in the USA. Herbert Werner will take over in the interim until an official successor is announced. Mercedes has had strong months this year in the USA so we are not sure what the reason is for Lieb being suddenly removed from his post especially considering he has worked for Daimler for over two decades. This dismissal seemingly coincides with the cancellation of the Mercedes national dealer meeting which was supposed to take place this week. We do not know what Lieb may have done wrong but we do like his taste in women. More on this story to come.

Low 11's with just a tune in warm 85 degree Florida weather? That is what a CLS63 AMG (non-Performance Package) with the Stage 1 Renntech M157 tune just did. The Stage I tune raises boost from the stock 14.5 psi to about the exact same amount as the performance package, 18.8 psi. The vehicle was completely stock except for Nitto NT05 drag radials. Density altitude was just under 2000 feet which means in winter conditions we can realistically expect high 10's out of tune only M157 cars.

Despite a promising weekend for Mercedes GP, the team couldn't show it where is counts, the race. Rosberg could only manage to claim eighth place, after battling it out with Jenson Button and the Ferrari's. In the end, he's tires gave out and was passed by Torro Rosso's Alguersuari on the last lap of the race. Michael had an unfortunate race and had to retire after Ranault's Vitaly Petrov completely over-braked and took out Schumacher on turn 3. Petrov and Alonso were battling for position after the first pitstops and both outbraked themselves. Alonso was on the outside and went off the track, but Petrov on the inside, ran into Schumacher, destroying his rear wing and puncturing his rear tire.

Mercedes GP took a very strategic approach to the Korean weekend. They spent all practice sessions on finding the right setup for race conditions. When qualifying rolled around, both drivers chose to do only one run in each of the qualifying periods in order to save tires for the race. Unfortunatly because of that Schumacher after complaints of vibrations in the car could ony manage 9th before dropping to 12th at the end of Q2. Nico Rosberg on the other hand made it through all three sessions and finished qualifying in 7th place.

As many of you expected, Renntech is now a vendor on BenzBoost and the entire Boost Network of sites. We wish to welcome Renntech and thank them for their positive and professional approach. We are sorry it has come to this but we can no longer have Modern Horsepower (MHP) advertising on this network. Andrew Cluck simply has abused the goodwill here and worn out his welcome (again). As many of you suspected, Andy was using multiple accounts to bash the competition hoping to prop up MHP in this manner. Yes, the user Jbond was Andy and the staff bit their lips as much as humanly possible even though that is not part of the vendor agreement. We simply do not condone attacking Renntech while hiding behind multiple accounts and this is why the thread was not moderated to protect MHP. Andy created that situation and we were not going to allow him to have vendor privileges in a thread the he did not have the courage to make from his vendor name.

For those of you who do not remember, Mercedes teased a "Shooting Brake" CLS concept back in 2010. Basically, this is just a wagon based on the W218 CLS. It will be entering production and it will be in showrooms next year although there is no word on if it will come to the United States where wagons are about as popular as using the words "Shooting Brake" to describe a car. Expect an AMG version of the vehicle as well.

This weekend, Korea will host round 16 of the 2011 Formula 1 World Championship. The Korean International circuit will host it's second grand prix after debuting in 2010. Last year's race was full of drama, delayed by a downpour, started, stopped and then re-started behind the safety car after a 48 minute wait before ending almost in the twilight with Fernando Alonso taking the win after Vettel suffered an engine failure with just nine laps left in the race. Last year saw the early retirement of Nico Rosberg after Red Bull's Mark Webber lost control of his car, hit the wall and took Nico out. For Michael it was a great race that saw him finish in 4th place, his best result last year after a difficult comeback year. ...Published on 10-11-2011 12:34 AM
We all know the Mercedes M275 twin turbo V12 responds VERY well to tuning. Eurocharged did an absolutely awesome job with a 6.0 liter version of the motor in a W221 S65 AMG squeezing out an additional 79 wheel horsepower and 100 wheel torque. This was done on a Dyno Dynamics which for the most part is much stingier on stock settings than the dynojets everyone is used to. For more information or how to purchase this tune, please contact Eurocharged.

Mercedes GP proved to be the best of the mid running teams this year and at times able to challenge the top teams. This race was no different. Michael Schumacher took advantage of his tire strategy and placed himself between the battling Hamilton and Massa to claim 6th place. Nico Rosberg, who suffering a hydraulic failure in qualifying and started 23rd in the race, finished in 10th place.

Many sites around the web are reporting the baby SLS was approved for production as if this was news. We told you about this in May of this year but we are glad everyone else is catching up to BenzBoost finally. The interesting tidbit here is not that the car is coming but the motor it will have under the hood. With a $100k price point it would absolutely crush the 911 with the twin turbo M157. What we think will happen is it will get an M157 variant without the turbos, just like the M152 in the new SLK55, to put it at around 422 horsepower making for a great match-up.

Mercedes GP didn't seem to put much effort during the Japanese grand prix qualifying session. In Q3 Michael Schumacher aborted a late run to save a set of tires for the race, once he realized he had 7th place by default. Nico Rosberg will start in 23rd place after a hydraulic problem prevented him from making any runs.

The last time we showed you the Renntech tunes on the on the performance package M157 they were putting down 558 whp on a dynojet with STD correction. On 91 octane Renntech is now closing in on 600 whp putting out 583 whp but the torque numbers slightly dipped to 635 vs. 653 previously. The CLS 63 AMG here was presented to us as a performance package car as well but the baseline dyno is much lower than what a performance package car should put down therefore we feel it is a standard CLS 63 AMG. If so, it just goes to show one can get greater gains for less money by opting not to purchase the performance package. Renntech is still tweaking these tunes but the results thus far are impressive.

Pictures of these Renntech headers (it was confirmed these are in fact from Renntech Florida) were posted up by a BenzBoost user. We all know MHP makes a high quality product and that is seen here with what is clearly the MHP long tube setup. What is stated as the Renntech header appears to be a modified stock setup and clearly is not a long tube or race setup as we were told the customer asked for. An additional claim is that these are $8000 dollar headers from Renntech but in an article posted last week we showed the Renntech long tube headers which are ceramic coated for that price and they look nothing like these.
