Congratulations to BenzBoost member Dads 63 (Keith) for setting a new C63 and M156 V8 overall performance record with a 1/4 mile run of 10.1@139. 9's are pretty much right around the corner for this platform and we expect them soother rather than later with all the competition. The run was done at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida and was immediately backed up with a 10.3@139 at Orlando Speedworld to remove any doubt. Full mod list is below, congratulations Keith! ...

Congratulations to Renntech who raised the bar to a whole new level. This Renntech tuned SLR was the first Mercedes to break into the 9's with a 9.76@140 and now they have taken the record to 9.68@142. It is important to keep in mind this was done at PBIR (Palm Beach International Raceway) in Florida so in colder weather and at a different track this is definitely a mid 9 second capable car. Changes from the previous runs include a larger throttle body and redesigned headers. Absolutely incredible work, congratulations to Renntech. ...

We all know Formula 1 is highly competitive and highly expensive. It's the absolute best of the best and the pinnacle of motorsport. Competing is somewhat of a privilege and honor. It also displays that a company is willing to compete with the best. The problem is not that Mercedes does not want to compete or does not have the money, it is that other teams seem to be getting incentives that the Mercedes team is not. Mercedes is threatening legal action over incentives that Ferrari, McLaren, and Redbull get (seats on the board, shares, cash bonuses) and may possibly pull out entirely. Those incentives by the way were given to those teams who threatened to pull out as well. We expect Mercedes to come to some kind of deal with Formula 1. ...

The M157 E63's are very fast cars even in stock form. These 1/4 mile numbers are a little slower than expected though but keep in mind it was run at PBIR (Palm Beach International Raceway) in 1200+ DA and 76% humidity. Florida does not have the fastest tracks especially once the weather begins to warm. The E63 ran 12.0@116 and the GT-R ran 11.0@123. So, the GT-R is clearly the faster car although a Performance Package E63 would have been much closer. ...

Unfortunately Mercedes had a poor showing in the Malaysian Grand Prix with Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg finishing in 10th and 13th places respectively. It isn't necessarily the fault of the drivers as Michael started in third but was hit on the first lap spinning him out and dropping him to 16th place. The rain intensified and led to tough conditions including a red flag on the 9th lap and a delay of almost an hour. Rosberg and Schumacher need to get going in the next race or this is going to be a very long season for Mercedes. ...

Congratulations to Eurocharged as well as the owner of this W211 E55 AMG who goes by the name of e55amgrocket. The screenname is very appropriate considering the results. What is even more impressive is that this record time was achieved on the stock blower with Density Altitude over 1000 feet and 80 degrees at the MIR dragstrip. This means there is still room to improve on what is already a very strong result. Congrats again to Eurocharged for tuning this beast. ...

Here it is folks, what many said could not be done. For those keeping score, this marks the third breakthrough by Weistec Engineering (first being the M156 supercharger and second being CARB certification). The Mercedes 722.9 transmission is used in a variety of vehicles and made its debut in 2004. Tuners have struggled to upgrade it with some saying it was impossible due to electronic complications but parts are now available to take the transmission up to the 1000 pound-foot of torque handling range. ...

The GLK did not look like it needed a facelift but it is getting one anyway. The headlight design has changed and it is clearly inspired by the new SL. The main changes we are interested in are those under the hood and the new GLK 250 BlueTec diesel is an interesting new option. The 2.1 liter four cylinder provides 190 horses and 369 pound-feet of torque which will make for a very nice option and offer a considerable increase over the GLK350's 16/22 mileage. ...

For whatever reason the US market is not big on wagons. On paper, they make much more sense than SUV's but the market is what it is. These models are respectively the rarest on their platform which they are based. The E63 wagon actually being more rare in the USA than the much more expensive Mercedes SLS. Ok, so we know these models are rare and that they don't sell well but which is faster? The E63 AMG Wagon with the twin turbo M157 V8 or the 6.2 liter supercharged CTS-V Wagon? ...

Congratulations to BenzBoost member ecampbell as well as Weistec Engineering for their feature in the April 2012 issue of the Mercedes Enthusiast magazine. This is a magazine based out of the UK so it may be tough to find the issue in the USA although we definitely recommend members keep their eyes out for it or order it online. This is the same Black Series BenzBoost had the pleasure of sampling in July of last year before it underwent further modification. Merc Enthusiast has similar glowing impressions of the car. Check out the article here: http://www.weistec.com/press.html or in the photos below. Once again, congratulations to Weistec and ecampbell. ...

Automotive news and reveals move pretty fast these days. Last week we reported that Mercedes intended to launch a new SL65 AMG with the reveal taking place next month at the New York Auto Show. Mercedes decided for whatever reason to reveal the vehicle online early before the show which more and more manufacturers seem to now be doing with their vehicles. The car looks absolutely fantastic. ...

Doubt this will get much outrage out of our users but the plug has been pulled on the R-Class in the US market. The reasoning behind the move? Lackluster sales. The R received a refresh in 2011 but it did not help things. We always questioned the idea of a mini-van in our SUV obsessed culture and it seems the market spoke clearly. Sales were sliding as early as 2007 at only 13,000 units in the USA falling well short of the 50,000+ per year goal for this model. ...

We have discussed the G65 AMG a couple times before and now it is confirmed the vehicle is indeed coming. AutoEvolution reports the G65 AMG will come with an M275 V12 at 6.0 liters with 612 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. The expected price is somewhere in the 220,000 Euro range making this an absurdly expensive G-Wagon. Will it come to the USA? We hope so, just because the idea is so ridiculously over the top.

Renntech keeps slowly but surely pushing the platform forward. They were the first to runs 10's, first to crack the 600 whp barrier, and now the first to crack the 130 MPH barrier in the 1/4 mile. The new fastest M157 record is 131 miles per hour. Keep in mind, this is before Renntech's latest round of mods have pushed the M157 motor to 627 wheel horsepower. It is safe to say this record will be surpassed fairly quickly as well. Check out the video below. ...

There was little word from Mercedes on whether they would produce another SL65 AMG or not. The current SL63 with the performance package easily exceeds the previous generation SL600 and is likely more than a match for the previous generation SL65 AMG (Black Series excluded). So it appears the V12 twin turbo M275 will be making another appearance but will it get any significant upgrades? If not, it almost seems redundant with the existence of the new twin turbo V8 with the performance package especially considering it will be more expensive. ...
