Another awesome review by Former boosted IS:
As I have continued to modify and improve my BMW, I have constantly tried to address weaknesses inherent to our platform. One of the very well known weaknesses on the N54 is the high oil temperatures. Sadly, the N54 and high oil temperatures go hand in hand. Upgrading the oil cooler has been a must on my list for a long time, but obviously I havenít completed the mod until now. To be completely honest, I have really struggled to find the right solution for my needs. I wanted a stock core upgrade, oil line upgrade, and a kit that upgraded the stock thermostat. One of the biggest hurdles in my opinion has been the 230-235F thermostat that regulates when the N54 will use is oil cooler. Basically, the stock thermostat means your oil cooler is worthless until the temperature goes over 230-235F with no exception. Whether you have 1 or 50 oil coolers on the N54 they are worthless until you go over 230-235F and that really stinks. I think this has been one of the biggest reasons I have shelved upgrading my oil cooler... until now. ...Published on 12-03-2010 05:37 AM
With the recently revealed F13 cab and the spy photos of the next generation M6 testing, we thought it was appropriate to show renderings of what the upcoming M6 cab may look like. Our designer did what we believe to be an aggressive an accurate rendition of how the real thing will end up. The M6 cab obviously will share its drivetrain with the upcoming F10 M5. This means a 7 speed DCT and a twin turbo S63 4.4 liter V8 putting out somewhere around 580 hp. If it looks this good, sign us up! ...Published on 12-03-2010 03:47 AM
This is a very cool comparison of a driver tackling the real life ring and then attempting to do the same on Gran Turismo 5 on the PS3. Denis Malevanyi is a professional driving instructor and the driver in both. This comparison is fun to see especially regarding just how far simulations have come. ...Published on 12-02-2010 10:27 PM
This is a comparison between supercharging and turbocharging on the E46 M3 S54 motor. The video is about 40 minutes long so in depth is definitely an accurate characterization. Keep in mind this comparison is from HPF who does sell turbo kits. This types of comparisons are great to see especially with so much detail. ...Published on 12-02-2010 10:11 PM
Justin Nenni from Tuning Concepts has been up at E-shift tuning the past couple days. Yesterday he tuned the car on 93 pump gas, and it made 585whp at 19psi. They have been working on it today with e85. Here is a video of one of the dyno runs. They are still working on it, but it just hit 762whp at 30psi on e85. ...Published on 12-02-2010 02:00 AM
This is from our friends at BMWblog who put together a small collection of BMW window stickers over the years. What some of you will no doubt find interesting is the fuel efficiency for the modern M motors vs. the old motors. It isn't hard to see why BMW caved in especially when you look at the M6 window sticker. The rise in cost is another interesting aspect. The stickers show a nice trip through BMW history. ...Published on 12-01-2010 09:01 PM
As I've said time and time again, IND's best asset are our amazing clients. Every day we have the privalage of encountering some of the most unique and driven people in the United States and internationally, and it is with the help of these individuals that we are able to build our Portfolio Projects.
This newest Portfolio Project is no exception. The owner of the car is a true car enthusiast and appreciates not only European sports cars, but also their Japanese rivals. We have decided to embrace his enthusiasm for sports cars of every origin and are working to create an M3 that reflects this. ...Published on 12-01-2010 12:28 AM
Audi has revealed the new A6 which borrows quite a few (more like all) styling cues from the A8. We aren't quite sure what to make of it yet as it seems similar yet different at the same time. We will leave the debate on styling up to you. A hybrid is shown here with a 2.0 TFSI motor paired with an electric. Currently two gasoline motors and three diesels are offered. A FWD model is also offered. ...Published on 11-29-2010 11:50 PM
According to thelocal, a German news source, a crime ring operating in the Munich BMW plant has been caught. 18 workers systematically would steal parts from the plant and put them up for sale on online auctions. At least 3 of the now ex-employees are in custody and are likely going to pay a heavy price. It is said that car seats is where the big bucks were at, stealing them and storing them at a warehouse to later sell online. We figured it would be high pressure fuel pumps? ...Published on 11-29-2010 07:50 AM
Wald International has released their take on the new BMW 7 series. Most striking is the rear overlapping oval exhaust which is different without being tacky. They style is influenced no doubt by Techart who would use a similar exhaust tip on their Porsche exhausts. Unlike most Japanese tuning, this is tasteful and not overdone. The LED's in the front and rear are also integrated fairly well. Check out the pics! ...Published on 11-29-2010 07:42 AM
We like maximum performance all year round. This video just goes to show how important it is to make sure you have the proper tires for the conditions. Winter and summer tires are compared in the snow on an F25 X3. ...Published on 11-28-2010 11:58 PM
Here we have a bone stock C6 Z06 vs. a VT2-600 supercharged DCT M3. The M3 gets crushed pretty decisively. Even in the run where the Z06 let off and then got back on it, it clearly shows the power disparity between the two as the Z06 is able to creep back up. So why this result when a DCT Gintani supercharged M3 is able to walk a stock Z06? ...Published on 11-28-2010 08:43 PM
I have spent the entire day gathering this data. I was finally able to orchestrate this test with a friend of mine who also frequents this board. He was witness and also passenger data logging. Firstly, the test conditions were such:
135i, stock downpipes, stock intercooler, JB4/G4 alpha tune. Ambient conditions 72F. Engine warmed up fully, heatsoaked for both runs. Boost kept constant for both runs. Meth mixture 90/10. Flow rate for meth was about 310-340 ml/min TOTAL.
Multiple runs were done 2nd through 4th gear, best back to back runs were compared. ...Published on 11-28-2010 04:14 AM
There are those who consider swapping a GM V8 into a BMW blasphemy. We consider it badass. Here we have an E46 sedan from the Phillipines that was able to pull this swap off. The LS3 is mated to a tremec T-56 manual transmission. An E28 M5 diff puts the power down. Click read more to see the full mod list and build pictures. ...Published on 11-27-2010 04:14 AM
Here we a have a 5 series GT modified by Studie AG. The Japanese have weird taste to say the least when it comes to modifying cars and this "creation" attests to that. The 5 series GT isn't the prettiest car to begin with so it is nice to see tuners tackle it attempting to improve it. We wouldn't call this an improvement though, we don't even really know what the hell to call it. Trying to make a 5 series GT look like a WWII Jeep? They call this the F07 safari, although if taken on a safari it would scare all the game away. ...
