Most folks will agree the M3 looks more aggressive than its standard 3 series sibling. Many folks try to mimic the look with the hood and sideskirts but without the wider fenders they are missing the key ingredient. Prior Design now has M3 wannabe's (sorry, couldn't resist) covered with their new M3 look bodykit for the E93. We aren't big fans of the hood, but we do admit, the kit is well done. The only thing is, don't use the M3 badge on your fenders for a non-M, that just makes you a poser. ...

The International Engine of the Year award competition is incredibly interesting for automotive enthusiasts. The competition awards the engineering that goes into motors in a variety of categories. This is a competition that BMW has traditionally dominated being the most awarded manufacturer in the competitions history. BMW has twice as many awards as the second place competitor, Honda. This year, 2011, the BMW N54 continued its run winning its fifth straight title for best 2.5 - 3.0 liter engine. The S65 V8 won for the 4th straight year in the 3.5 to 4.0 liter category. BMW also won in the 1.4 to 1.8 liter category as well as the 1.8 to 2.0. Mercedes was knocked out completely. ...

We have received some inside information from a tuner who has seen some of BMW's test files. Apparently, BMW has been testing the motor at various levels of boost, obviously knowing it will be tuned, with files up to 700 horsepower. BMW is aware of the Performance Package on the E63 and the tuner who had access to the files inside BMW reports that they are aggressively prodding the limits. What this means is that BMW may offer their own performance package software to compete with Mercedes who has them out-gunned on raw power according to the latest dyno numbers and that the motor will have plenty of headroom from the stock boost level. ...

The cost cutting measures continue. BMW's head of inline engine development Harald Unger recently announced the goal is to share as many parts as possible between 1.5, 2.0, and 3.0 liter inline motors including diesels. The idea is to have a common 500cc displacement per cylinder allowing the same basic block to be used for 3 cylinder, 4 cylinder, and 6 cylinder models. He even went further to state he wants the same turbo to apply to each motor reducing the amount of suppliers necessary. ...

ESS Tuning revealed their S85 V10 supercharger kit at Bimmerfest 2011. They handed out flyers with details showing the pricing information as well as dynos of the kits. It is difficult to see the graphs but they are claiming about 560 rear wheel horsepower for the VT2 at 6 psi at a price of $15,995 and in the 530 whp range for the VT1 at 5 psi for $11,995. Eloy at RPI was wrong about the pricing as he started a rumor about a sub $10k price point likely to generate interest. ...

Congratulations to BimmerBoost member Msizzle for breaking the 1/4 mile record for the quickest M6! Msizzle ran an 11.827@120.67 breaking the previous record held by an MHP tuned M6 of 11.870@119 mph. Interestingly enough, the new record was set at the same track the previous record was set, ATCO in New Jersey. Car has a full catless Evosport exhaust including headers, Powerchip Stage 3 race tune, and was run on Mickey Thompson drag radials. ...

Here is Bimmerboost coverage of BimmerFest 2011 courtesy of BB member fastgti69. It was not the most beautiful California day having been largely overcast but it was nice and cool. Turnout was quite large with most of the major SoCal players in attendance. Take a look a the photos to get an idea for yourself. A big thank you to fastgti69 for photo coverage from beginning to end. ...

These are the first drag strip 1/4 mile numbers for the Active Autowerke Stage 2 supercharged M3. Pay no attention to the elapsed time as the runs were done on street tires and the 60 foots were over 2.0. What is important is the car hit 124 mph which is very solid on pump and meth. With a more aggressive launch and better conditions, 125 mph is a realistic goal for the 7.5 psi kit. ...

Remember all those spyphotos of what was thought to be the 3 series GT? Well, AutoExpress reports that the car that was thought to be the 3 GT will be the new BMW 4 series. Why a 4 series? We wish we knew. This car is an answer to a question nobody asked. Did BMW learn nothing from the 5 series GT mess? How does this car make any sense? Is there some huge demand in the BMW community for a car that is the offspring of a 3 series raped by an X6? Would it not make more sense to just bring the wagons already being made over? We do not get it. ...

Here is a comparison video from Autocar that on paper should be spectacular, but as usual, Autocar's execution just plain stinks. You get two of the best German drivers cars in the world and this the best Autocar can do? No laptimes? No acceleration data? No skidpad/slalom numbers? No hard data of any kind? This video is the equivalent of two people taking two cars in the canyons while chatting on cell phones about what they think of the cars as if that is automotive journalism. American car magazines and blogs simply do these comparisons better, this is a major letdown. ...

Congratulations to BimmerBoost member LostMarine! This is breaking news from the private track rental today at the ATCO drag strip in New Jersey. This run was done at 19 psi on the upgraded Rob Beck turbos. Car was launched in second gear on drag radials. Car also has meth and upgraded axles which it clearly needs now with all this power. Check out the timeslip below, more details are coming. ...

Since we posted renderings of the F11 M5 we thought we might as well post the new Hamann program for the F11 5 series as well. It certainly doesn't hurt to look at even though the F11 is not available in the USA for whatever reason (likely that wagons do not sell well). Hamann basically carries over their F10 M-sport offering onto the F11 and the result is surprisingly well executed. Wagons are starting to grow on us. Bring it over BMW, it makes more sense than the 550 GT ever did. ...

This is a good piece of marketing for the BMW performance parts division. BMW took stock cars as well as the same cars equipped with their performance parts to a track in Las Vegas for people to try back to back. The video mostly goes on and on about people saying the difference between the stock cars and the cars with the performance parts is incredible. For people experienced with the BMW aftermarket this video is amusing considering how mild the factory parts offering is. If a guy is impressed by an extra 20 horsepower he needs to try a supercharged M3 or a JB4 335. ...

Obviously we are not referring to the 328 as most of you know it as a 3 series model that has been offered over the past few generations. We are referring to the original 328 BMW, a sports car produced in 1936. This car was famous for winning the Mille Miglia endurance race in 1940 as well as its class in the 1939 24 hours of Le Mans. It was an advanced car for its time featuring a tubular space frame and a 1.9 liter 6 cylinder putting out a beastly 80 horsepower. This was one of the first cars that really showed how sporty and capable a BMW could be. ...

The E93 M3 in question here is a manual. It is completely stock and on 91 octane pump gas. The reason the year is emphasized as being a 2010 on is due to the tuner lockout software BMW implemented to try to stop tuning with cars featuring 2010 and up build dates. These locked ECU's have stopped some tuners but the as the graph and video here shows OE Tuning is able to circumvent the lockout and custom dyno tune the car. Gains are shown throughout the curve with a healthy 21 wheel horsepower at peak, tune only. ...
