The vehicle was previously running a tune from VF's partner, GIAC, but there were concerns about the car running too lean as well as having idle surge issues which are well documented with VF cars. AC Schnitzer has specially designed a set of lightweight wheels for performance oriented BMW enthusiasts. These wheels are fully forged, 1 piece, and offer 35% weight savings compared to previous models.
AC Schnizter collaborated on these wheels with FUCHS. Compared to a BMW performance alloy for the 335, 4.5 kg of weight savings are realized. G-power has decided to throw out a perfectly good twin turbo V8 with untapped potential in order to swap in an SMG transmission and a twin-supercharged V10. Now, we are the first ones to admit, this is pretty cool. However, it is also pretty pointless.
The X6 M already has a twin turbo V8 putting out over 550 hp. Why not concentrate on upgrading that powerplant? 900 hp certainly isn't out of reach especially with top mounted turbos. BMW was very quick in already announcing the M-Sport package for the new X3. Most noticeable are the exterior changes in including the front and rear bumpers as well as the fenders being body colored. Carbon Black paint makes a return and is exclusive to the M-Sport package.
19 inch lightweight M alloy wheels are also included. These are combined with a slightly lower stance with sportier suspension tuning. There are interior changes (which are not pictures) including an M steering wheel with paddles and an M gear lever. Sport seats similar to those on the 5 series M-Sport are also included. BMW revealed the new BMW X3 today. The car has an attractive design inside and out. The X3 will be receiving 3 motors although only 2 are confirmed for the USA at the moment, the 240hp Xrdive28i powered by the N52 and the 300hp Xdrive35i powered by the N55. BMW is reporting a 0-60 of 5.7 seconds for the xdrive35i.
The vehicle comes with an 8speed automatic and a diesel is available but not in the US market yet. The diesel model is the Xdrive20d which is a 4 cylinder diesel, specs: Displacement: 1,995 cc, power output: 135 kW/184 bhp at 4,000 rpm, max. torque: 380 Nm at 1,750 – 2,750 rpm.
With a curb weight around ~4000 pounds, the X3 is one of the lightest SUV's on the market. We would argue the X3 would serve as a better base for an M suv than the X5 or X6 even. Unfortunately, it seems BMW will not be giving this model a V8. ...Published on 07-14-2010 11:58 PM
BimmerBoost is pushing the dyno event back to accomodate ESS. Note, Asbjorn, the tuner for ESS, is in Europe and is going to be there through the date originally scheduled. He said he would be willing to fly out if necessary which we truly appreciate. The cost of forcing him to fly out for a weekend and then fly back just isn't fair or something we should realistically expect him to do.
Several other tuners have expressed that they appreciate the additional time as does BimmerBoost. We are working out the details on the time necessary to read the stock files to have the event go smoothly and exactly as scheduled.

KK Automobile revealed their widebody today along with several other performance parts. The widebody is carbon fiber and priced reasonably well in comparison to the other offerings on the market.

The number 92 M3 driven by Bill Auberlan and Tommy Milner finished second overall behind the Ferrari F430 GT. The second M3 driven by Dirk Mueller and Joey Hand finished in 4th place behind the Corvette ZR1.
The most important development here is that Porsche was kept out of the top 4 spots allowing BMW to move into first place in the manufacturer standings. There are still plenty of races left in the season but BMW should be proud of their early success. This video shows the BMW Rahal Letterman M3 driven by Tommy Milner in a qualifying lap at the at the Miller Motorsport Park. The two M3's qualified 5th and 6th for the race tomorrow at 4:30 PM Eastern Time. The top 9 GT class cars were all within 1 second of each other in qualifying.

BMW released the teaser video above on the 1 series M coupe today. The video features Dr. Kay Segler discussing how the car will put a smile on your face and we have no doubt it will do just that which is what the vast majority of BMW's do.
Car and Driver also released their first drive impressions which told us a few things, most importantly that a tweaked N54 would be used putting power at 335 hp which is no doubt underrated. BimmerBoost predicted an N54 in this article here.
The car will obviously have suspension tweaks, a unique exhaust, a limited slip differential, better brakes, as well as unique body work and wheels. However, we can't help but feel a bit let down. First of all, M cars always have had a unique/special powerplant that goes with the chassis. An N54 just running a few more pounds of boost is a bit boring. No cylinder head changes? It is the responsibility of any forum to allow users to post their experience to inform other users before making a purchase. Bimmerpost is protecting vendors who have an inventory of these coil-overs at the expense of the users, literally. It is shady, dirty, deliberate, and just plain wrong. After 5 years, the production of the E60 M5 has come to an end. Production was a record high for M5's, with exactly 20,548 units having been produced. 19,523 were the sedan with the rest of the production belonging to the wagon. The E39 M5 was produced for 6 years, 1 year longer, but had smaller production numbers overall.
The United States was the largest market for the vehicle, accounting for 8,800 sales alone. Germany only accounted for 1,647 units. Great Britain and Ireland combined for 1,776 units sold. Japan was the fourth largest market. Interestingly enough, the United States was larger than the next 3 largest markets combined. We have seen many users and HPF fans alike on various BMW forums touting the 139 mph trap speed achieved by Evil Twin Robs HPF Stage 2 M3 at the Spokane Motorsports Drag Strip.
Often when there would be a conflict or questions as to how fast an HPF car is these 137-139 mph trap speeds would be used to prop up HPF cars when keyboard racing. Recently, Evil Twin Rob ran at this same track after the suspect timing equipment had been replaced and his traps were over 10 mph less than what was achieved before. ALSA Automotive Engineering sent BimmerBoost details on their turbo upgrade hardware. Stage I consists of modifying the stock turbo's compressor wheels to allow for up to 1.8 bar of boost.
Here you can see the pictures of the hardware and the difference between the stock X6 M compressor wheel with the modified wheels. ALSA believes they are the first to have the completed hardware even though Nowack claims to have upgraded turbos. Nowack has not posted any photos of their hardware or any dyno graphs. The same goes for RDsport so it clearly seems ALSA is the first to have upgraded turbos available for the twin turbo BMW V8's.

BMW revealed the F10 and F12 M-Sport Package today. It consists of exterior, interior, and suspension upgrades.
The interior gets sport seats featuring Alcantara fabric with the M emblem embedded in the seats. Additionally, an M leather clad steering wheel, gear level, foot rest, and interior trim are added.

The question has arisen several times about what has lower drivetrain losses, the DCT or the manual M3. We have seen information being circulated suggesting the DCT has lower drivetrain losses which is why it performs better which is simply incorrect and a case of pushing personal politics over the correct information.
The DCT performs better simply due to the shift speed despite weighing about 50 pounds more than the manual. With the way a dual clutch transmission works, it simply takes some additional engine power to operate. This is especially true in the case of wet clutches such as the Getrag unit in the M3 vs. dry as dry clutches do not have the additional loss created by pumping fluid into the housing. Dan Carney writes in this article hosted on dctfacts.com, "A dry clutch setup enjoys a 1% fuel economy benefit compared to a wet clutch DCT because of the elimination of the oil pump and its attendant losses."
The wet clutch DCT simply takes power to run. It is a physical impossibility for it to have lower drivetrain losses than the manual. The associated systems just simply will take more power to operate. It is impossible for a wet clutch DCT to have the drivetrain efficiency of a manual but the difference is not huge. DCT's often have higher mpg ratings due to having a 7th gear not due to lower losses. Alpina has revealed the production F10 B5. The car has a tuned N63 producing 500 hp. The transmission is the 8 speed automatic used in the X5/X6 M.
No word on if this vehicle will come to the USA but we don't see the point in it. The M5 will be priced around the same point and offer a dual clutch transmission as well as far better handling, power, and looks. If the price could be kept down significantly it would serve as a nice middle ground between the 550 and the M5. It makes more sense to simply tune a 550i for far less money and get better gains per dollar. ...
