By now everyone knows all about the BMW i8. A quick refresher, this is BMW's hybrid sports car with horsepower in the 350-400 range and a price point estimated around the $150,000 mark. It will be fairly exclusive and offer excellent performance for the reported 78 mile per gallon capability. The styling of the concept was ostentatious to say the least and many of us have wondered how it will translate into production. These renderings tone the color schemes and body work down slightly but still keep the original design intact. If this is what the real thing looks like, then this is going to be one hot car. ...

Companies are like people. As the years advance a business can grow, change, and evolve to respond to changing markets. Eisenmann’s approach has been rather different in this respect. Eisenmann has no side business, no secondary interests, and no distractions. For the past 27 years Eisenmann has maintained a singular focus based on hand crafting the finest possible exhaust systems and for the past 27 years Eisenmann has maintained their love for BMW automobiles. ...

The start of the highly anticipated 2012 DTM season is less than 2 weeks away. BMW has a tough road ahead of them as Audi and Mercedes have the advantage of having raced in DTM the previous seasons not needing to re-invent the wheel so to speak. BMW is not pulling any punches and had all drivers present to do final testing with the car at Hockenheim to make sure the car is absolutely perfect. This testing took place over a four day period and BMW believes they met all goals they set for the car. Check out the videos of the process below and BMW definitely looks prepared for the start of the season. ...

BMW got another podium in Long Beach, California finishing in 2nd and 11th. The M3 finishing in 11th was involved in an accident on the first lap which required lengthy repairs. The 11th place finish puts the second car out of the points so BMW is now tied for the overall manufacturer lead. Chevrolet took the victory and the C6 ZR1 race car had a strong showing with 1st and 4th place finishes. Corvette Racing appears to be the BMW's biggest challenge and rival in their quest for a third straight championship. ...

The 997 Carrera GTS is no slouch. It essentially bridges the (narrow) gap between the Carrera S and the GT3. With the PDK transmisison, it is a very quick car with its 408 horsepower 3.8 liter flat-6. The 1M is the slower vehicle stock for stock but all of us on BimmerBoost know how the N54 twin turbo under the hood responds to modifications. Well, with just a tune this 1M is able to make fairly quick work of this stock GTS in a roll on race. We are not sure what tune the 1M is running but the result is impressive. ...

The new BMW F30 328i continues to rack up wins in comparison tests. Just last month it beat German 4 cylinder sport sedan challengers and now Car and Driver added the Infiniti G25 and Volvo S60 to the mix. The Volvo is the most powerful and quickest car in the test by virtue of its turbo inline-6 with 300 horsepower seeming a bit out of place against the four cylinder competition (excluding the naturally aspirated V6 of the G25). The Volvo stacks up well pricing wise but clearly the motor is more akin to competing against the 335i and not the 328i. ...

Took a few hours today to do some N20 dyno testing and tuning. For those that have been living under a rock for the past few months the N20 is a 2.0L 4 cylinder turbo and motors replaces the N52 motor used in the 328i, among other cars. We only have around 200 miles on the car but so far first impressions are very positive. Compared to the previous 328i N52 motor the N20 is much more responsive and has excellent low end torque characteristics. In addition it has much more power to redline. It also delivers better fuel economy. In short, it really blows the N52 away in all categories. Below is an N52 vs. N20 dyno comparison. ...

We have reached and passed our first major milestone, the 10,000 member mark. GermanBoost would like to thank all our vendors and users for their support in making this happen and making it happen so quickly as well. We have passed several forums on the way here and now have definitively established ourselves as a legitimate alternative to the corporate automotive forums. One that puts the German performance automobile enthusiast first. With a base of 10,000 members (and growing!) it is clear that we are not going anywhere anytime soon. ...

The X5M is very quick for an SUV namely when going from a stop. The 2011 Corvette Gran Sport with the LS3 6.2 liter V8 is hardly a slouch either and obviously much, much lighter. The all wheel drive and automatic make the X5M fairly nasty out of the hole and it is much easier to launch than this 6 speed vette. The race goes exactly as it should with the X5 getting the better 60 foot and establishing a lead out of the hole with a 1.78 60 foot compared to the 2.12 of the C6 and it manages to hold off the vette with a 12.3@111 versus a 12.7@112. With a better launch the C6 would take this race although it is close which certainly shows how impressive the X5M is. ...

Good news for F30 owners who already have suspension options courtesy of Eibach. The first and likely most popular component will be their lowering springs. The springs offer a drop of approximately 30mm. For a more aggressive look 5mm spacers are also available. The coil-overs are still under development but feature Eibach springs mated to Bilstein shocks. The two coil-over options are the B12 Pro-Kit and B12 Sportline. The Sportline springs offer a more aggressive drop and ride. ...

This is the Hamann body kit for the F12 BMW 6 Series. Hamann as of late has been bit too aggressive but these parts seem to work with the new BMW 6 well. The parts include a new front bumper with integrated LED's (everyone seems to be doing LED's), side skirts, spoiler, and rear bumper designed to show off the Hamann exhaust tips. Hamann 21 inch wheels with 255/30/21 front tires and 295/25/21 rear tires. Overall, pretty well done exterior and interior offering by Hamann. ...

Here are some dyno graphs from the HPF M3 back on 10/21/2011 with the Precision 8285. The results would have been a bit higher had we run standard rear tires. The rear tires we were running are the big tall heavy 345s on 13" wide wheels. These runs were at 30psi. We were definitely running into a flow restriction in the Steed Speed turbo manifold after 1,000rwhp and we can't run the HPF cast version because it can't be installed in two sections which make it possible to fit the 8285 without removing the engine. ...

Well, the supply of the X1 seems to have gone up so the USA will finally get the entry level SUV. It will be officially revealed at the New York Auto Show but here is the online reveal early. The X1 will be available in two trims, one with the new N20 turbo 4 cylinder (X1 xDrive28i) and one with the N55 turbo 6 cylinder (X1 xDrive35i). With a curb weight in the 37XX range the vehicle is lighter than the X3 making for an SUV that will be a lot of fun to drive. Unfortunately, it does not look anywhere near as good as the X3. Press release below. ...

Auto Motor Und Sport already leaked the photos out yesterday of the Spyder but here are the official details and pictures from BMW. Specs are the same as the coupe with 354 horsepower (131 from the eletric motor) from the hybrid powertrain. It can travel 19 miles on electricity alone before the gasoline motor turns on to charge the batteries. The Spyder has 50-50 weight distribution and gets around 78 miles per gallon. It seems that BMW does not just want to produce a coupe version of the i8 but a Spyder as well to increase the potential market for the car. Fine by us as this is going to be an expensive car to be seen in to begin with so dropping the top is logical. The main question was if the gullwing style doors would still be there (as Mercedes went to traditional doors for the SLS convertible) and we are happy to report they still are. Pictures of what is said to be the concept are from Auto Motor Und Sport and they show the rear seats are deleted with the Spyder. ...
