We still do not know what the internal designation for this motor is but we now know it is official and it is coming. The specs are 245 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This motor will first appear in the Xdrive28i when it comes on sale in the United States. The motor will be rated around 30 mph on the highway which improves considerable on the N52 it will be replacing. Compression is 10.0:1. More details to come shortly such as the designation, boost, redline, etc. ...Published on 01-18-2011 06:49 AM
This rendering of the F30 was done for Bimmer Magazine by Schulte Design. The E9X platform still has a couple good years left in it but it is on the downward swing. The F30 is coming and if it looks like this rendering that certainly is a good thing. 5 series headlight cues can be seen but we doubt the front bumper of the standard model will be anywhere near as aggressive. The N55 and the new 4 cylinder turbo motor should be the powerplants that launch with it mated to an 8 speed automatic. This is a good interpretation of the future model but we remind, it is just a rendering. ...Published on 01-17-2011 05:51 PM
People all around the world have fallen in love with the automobile since itís creation over 100 years ago. Entire lives have been dedicated and lost to our love for the automobile, and for the feeling that it can give. Anyone who wants to navigate the aftermarket performance industry must have a good understanding of the allure of the sports car and what itís meant to humans since its invention. Itís always easy to spot those in the business who do not have a genuine love for cars, as their misguided intentions will always reveal themselves in the way they create their own project cars. ...Published on 01-15-2011 03:12 PM
Score another victory for BMW Motorsport, the Z4 GT3 won by over 4 laps in the 24 hour race. The car was driven by ALMS driver Tommy Milner as well as Augusto Farfas, Claudia Hurtgen, and Edward Sandstrom. The Z4 controlled the race nearly from the beginning when the pole setting Reiter Gallardo was forced to retire due to engine trouble. The other Z4 GT3 which was the sister car run by Turner Motorsport finished in 5th despite several issues including an accident and a cracked header. Congratulations to the Schubert racing team and BMW!

The BMW X1 is already available for sale around the globe. It was supposed to be available in the largest market for the SUV, the United States, in the beginning of this year. Strong demand has the factory in Europe at full capacity. Unlike the X3, X5, and X6 built in the United States the X1 is built in Germany likely because it has far more in common with the chassis of the regular cars instead of the SUV's. If sales continue to be strong, it may even be delayed further than the fall. ...Published on 01-14-2011 05:03 PM

Let's be realistic, the majority of aftermarket companies do not last. Many come and go likely before we even get a chance to hear about them. It is even more difficult for those that specialize in forced induction on BMW's. Boosting M motors and BMW NA motors in general has never been easy and few have been around as long as Active Autowerke. AA has been around since 1981 and is older than many of the people on this site including myself. Active has done some top builds that captivate the community such as TazaM3's custom E46 M3 turbo which is one of the most powerful BMW's in the world. We would like to congratulate Active Autowerke on 30 great years and state the BMW performance world is better thanks to their involvement. Here is to 30 more! ...Published on 01-12-2011 01:07 PM
Steve (M5junky) sent us these pictures with permission to post them. These pictures reveal the state his E60 M5 was in after having spent about 2 years at ASR Engineering. The car was sent there for a twin turbo built motor setup as most of you know and nothing was done. Well, nothing other than stripping the car the car down and leaving it a huge mess. The transmission was pulled and looks to be left stock. The motor was pulled and not built as agreed. The engine bay, well, you can see for yourself. ...Published on 01-12-2011 12:37 PM
As a lot of you know I live in Johannesburg South Africa which is 5500ft above sea level. Tuning of the car is a work in progress but I got a opportunity today to give the car a run on a dyno just to see where I am at with my "street" map. Runs where done with 93 and meth (CM10) and the temp was 30 degrees celsius with no cooling of the car. We have not touched the tuning much above 6000rpm as we had to make sure we had the fueling waxed at lower high torque rpms. Boost pressure was set at 19psi and tapered to 15psi at the higher rpm. The timing is also very conservative and I am confident to say that we can push 475whp in race trim comfortably. So far Chip Logic does not seem to have hit any barriers in the tuning of larger turbos using flash software. ...Published on 01-11-2011 07:21 PM
Well, it would seem BMW is phasing out yet another naturally aspirated powerplant in one of their models. Not much of a surprise to us, we know bimmer boost is the future. There are very few details on the new poweplant other than it will be the new base motor and should likely be the replacement for the N52 across the board in the future. Rumors are around 200 horsepower but we will know more when the engine is officially unveiled. It would also not surprise us if this motor was in Mini models as well. ...Published on 01-11-2011 04:53 PM
2010 was a great year, namely because it was our first. A lot of changes took place and during this first year we had some great moments as well as some that made you shake your head. We feel this compilation reflects the best and worst that 2010 had to offer in our respective areas of coverage. Enjoy the list: ...Published on 01-09-2011 12:38 PM
Let me start off by saying that the Turbo S is one hell of a fast car. The 911 Turbo S runs 0-60 in 2.6 seconds and completes the 1/4 mile in 10.7 @ 129mph right off the showroom floor!
On our first run I was able keep the lead and on the second run he held the lead. It was a matter of who hit the throttle first, so on just supercharger we are a pretty even match from a roll. The video below is our last run and I used a small 50hp shot of nitrous to make sure the BMW got the win. : ...Published on 01-08-2011 08:42 AM
As BMW continues to take focus away from performance and power shifting it to MPG and efficiency, it should surprise no one that BMW is looking into even more frugal/smaller diesels. Auto Express is reporting that the next gen 3 series may feature a 1.5 liter 3 cylinder turbo diesel pushing 150 hp. This would undercut the smallest diesel now offered, the 2.0 liter 320d, by a half liter while offering similar performance and cleaner emissions. At this rate, soon BMW's will be running on single cylinder motors powered by our tears. ...Published on 01-08-2011 04:02 AM
Gintani is offering an introductory special for their naturally aspirated stroker motor for the S65. This offer is open only to the first person and the intro pricing reflects this. Included in the price are the new pistons, rods, custom crank, installation, custom dyno tune, as well as custom headers built specifically for the stroker application. No additional costs, everything included for the intro price. Compare this to $25,999 for the Dinan stroker motor or $32,800 for the RDsport stroker motor and one can see just how great this offer is. ...Published on 01-08-2011 03:11 AM
Here we have an initial dyno of the Cobb Accessport on the N54. The car used is a 135i 6-speed. The dyno is on 93 octane pushing around 15 psi of boost. No boost graph or AFR is included which we would like but we will take what they give us. The result for 93 octane pump gas only certainly is not bad but some, including BMS, are expressing concerns about the boost being pushed. This tune compares favorably with the Giac Stage 1. More details below: ...Published on 01-06-2011 10:53 AM
HPF has been on a marketing blitz lately releasing tons of quality content. Pay attention tuners, this is how you market. What we have here is a short video with the two widebody M3's but it mostly focuses on the black Stage 4 widebody. The V-309 is a forged 3-piece available in sizes ranging from 19 to 24 inches. These wheels are a nice addition to the Vorsteiner lineup. ...Published on 01-04-2011 06:55 AM
The new X3 poses a very interesting entry into the SUV landscape. Packing a 3.0 liter turbo 6 cylinder with 300 hp, it really is quite fast for an SUV. Being over 1000 pounds lighter than X5 or X6 certainly does not hurt. In stock form the SUV is running times comparable to the US E36 M3. It is not marketed as such, but due to the low curb weight and turbo powerplant the X3 makes for an interesting entry into the performance SUV realm. Think about what it could do with a V8. Specs below: ...Published on 01-03-2011 02:11 AM
Asbjorn from ESS sent some very nasty letters threatening Bimmerboost with legal action over revealing issues with the supercharged stroker motor. Frankly, we do not understand why Asbjorn is doing this as it is completely beneath any professional company and far more could be accomplished by taking the higher road as one would expect the head of a large BMW aftermarket company to do. BimmerBoost does not condone these actions and finds them offensive and unprofessional. No company should say they would take pleasure in hurting anyone.
Here is what Asbjorn@ESS sent: ...
