Hot on the heels of the new BMW Motorsport director being appointed we have the first major change to the Motorsport program. BMW will no longer support a factory effort in the World Touring Car Championship. BMW seems to be focused on DTM instead of the WTCC. JonSibal did a rendering recently after an interview with an unnamed source at BMW (why unnamed?). Sibal asks his "source" if a CSL 1M coupe is a possibility. The source replies that "anything is possible." Well, based on that, just about every blog has picked this story up. Why? We don't know, with nothing to substantiate it and an answer that isn't an answer this is making the rounds simply due to the rendering. As I have continued to modify and improve my BMW, I have constantly tried to address weaknesses inherent to our platform. One of the very well known weaknesses on the N54 is the high oil temperatures. Sadly, the N54 and high oil temperatures go hand in hand. Upgrading the oil cooler has been a must on my list for a long time, but obviously I havenít completed the mod until now. To be completely honest, I have really struggled to find the right solution for my needs. I wanted a stock core upgrade, oil line upgrade, and a kit that upgraded the stock thermostat. One of the biggest hurdles in my opinion has been the 230-235F thermostat that regulates when the N54 will use is oil cooler. Basically, the stock thermostat means your oil cooler is worthless until the temperature goes over 230-235F with no exception. Whether you have 1 or 50 oil coolers on the N54 they are worthless until you go over 230-235F and that really stinks. With the recently revealed F13 cab and the spy photos of the next generation M6 testing, we thought it was appropriate to show renderings of what the upcoming M6 cab may look like. Our designer did what we believe to be an aggressive an accurate rendition of how the real thing will end up. The M6 cab obviously will share its drivetrain with the upcoming F10 M5. This is a comparison between supercharging and turbocharging on the E46 M3 S54 motor. The video is about 40 minutes long so in depth is definitely an accurate characterization. Justin Nenni from Tuning Concepts has been up at E-shift tuning the past couple days. Yesterday he tuned the car on 93 pump gas, and it made 585whp at 19psi. What some of you will no doubt find interesting is the fuel efficiency for the modern M motors vs. the old motors. It isn't hard to see why BMW caved in especially when you look at the M6 window sticker. The rise in cost is another interesting aspect. Audi has revealed the new A6 which borrows quite a few (more like all) styling cues from the A8. We aren't quite sure what to make of it yet as it seems similar yet different at the same time. We will leave the debate on styling up to you. A hybrid is shown here with a 2.0 TFSI motor paired with an electric. Currently two gasoline motors and three diesels are offered. According to thelocal, a German news source, a crime ring operating in the Munich BMW plant has been caught. 18 workers systematically would steal parts from the plant and put them up for sale on online auctions. At least 3 of the now ex-employees are in custody and are likely going to pay a heavy price. It is said that car seats is where the big bucks were at, stealing them and storing them at a warehouse to later sell online. Wald International has released their take on the new BMW 7 series. Most striking is the rear overlapping oval exhaust which is different without being tacky. They style is influenced no doubt by Techart who would use a similar exhaust tip on their Porsche exhausts. Unlike most Japanese tuning, this is tasteful and not overdone. Here we have a bone stock C6 Z06 vs. a VT2-600 supercharged DCT M3. The M3 gets crushed pretty decisively. Even in the run where the Z06 let off and then got back on it, it clearly shows the power disparity between the two as the Z06 is able to creep back up. I have spent the entire day gathering this data. I was finally able to orchestrate this test with a friend of mine who also frequents this board. He was witness and also passenger data logging. Firstly, the test conditions were such:
135i, stock downpipes, stock intercooler, JB4/G4 alpha tune. Ambient conditions 72F. Engine warmed up fully, heatsoaked for both runs. Boost kept constant for both runs. Meth mixture 90/10. Flow rate for meth was about 310-340 ml/min TOTAL.
Multiple runs were done 2nd through 4th gear, best back to back runs were compared. ...
