• Here it is, the 1M Coupe - Pictures and Official Specs, 335 hp N54 - The new M "era" begins

Here we finally have it. No more teaser videos, no more showing a fender here or there, no more hype, this is the real deal. BMW gives us the final product and by no accident chose to show it with the E30 M3. Putting the 1M Coupe which has accomplished nothing up on the lofty pedestal of comparisons with the E30 M3, arguably the greatest BMW M ever made, is not showing the E30 M3 the proper respect. It is not a spiritual successor to the E30 M3. However, that is a debate for another time and let's focus on the specs and photos.

The motor and tune is the exact same as the 335is and 2011 Z4 sDrive35is. Nothing special here folks, same N54, same 335 hp. Disappointing? In our opinion, for an M, yes. This shares the same motor as other cars in the lineup with no changes. Not even a different tune? In our opinion, the powerplant is a major letdown.

The transmission is a 6-speed with extra cooling which it no doubt will need for the guys who take this thing out of the track. It sends power to the "M" differential which is just a part derived from the E92 M3. The borrowing from the M3 does not stop there, as the suspension is lifted from the M3 as well. Starting to see a pattern here? No doubt you see it with the wheels which are lifted from the M3 competition package with 245/35/19 and 265/35/19 tire measurements. How about those brakes? Lifted from the M3 as well.

So far we have a parts bin car with the same motor already available and the same parts that were already designed. So... where is the "M" magic? In the body work of course. Look at those great fenders! The car certainly looks like it is a real M car. That counts, why do you think we got all those teasers of fenders and bumpers?

The car will sell, they will sell every last one. People have already bought the hype. This isn't an E30 M3 and never will be one. As the guys at insideline put it so well, "No doubt the carmaker would like to recast the 2011 BMW 1 Series M as a spiritual successor to that beloved M3. That's a pipe dream." It is a great looking car that will be fun to drive but this new M era has us shaking our heads in disappointment of what M has now become.

Sounds to me like this will be a great tuner car with an already available market for parts as soon as they roll off the lots.

Putting aside the heritage, they will make great tuners.

Absolutely correct. From that standpoint it is enticing.

Looks nice, not really sure what the M badge is doing there, but hey, it is similar to non-AMG cars having AMG badges because they have AMG parts.

Looks decent to say the least, better than the standard e82/84

And just so your not disappointed in the future, I will break the news to you now. The next M3 will not have over 500hp.

I still think that a M car is one that handles well on the track (not the straight 400m one) and well this is exactly that, might be done on a budget, but it is probably going to rock!

The whole problem is Efficent dynamics ,get rid of it and we will be happy again.I just don't care about enviorment when i rev my V10 ,or mpg or whatever M division is trying to achieve , i just don't.
it seems my next car won't be a Bmw , as i moved to Audi before

What I mean by I dont want an AMG is that I dont want tue choice to be so easy that I don't even consider an M3. The reason why I said 500 hp is because I doubt that it will have that too... I actually am thinking C63 for the next vehicle lol

I'm actually running 122 and this you know as well as me that the stock snails on the N54 are a joke, definitely lower air mass than gintani stage 2+ sc m3s...actually, what's the cfm on the gintani stg2+ setup? ESS doesn't hit 130+

Oh, and check your 1/4 mile list, hotrod hit 132.77mph in the 1/4 with a small shot of NOS on stock snails so your argument against the N54 engine and its "puppy" nature doesn't hold, sorry...with a better than stock turbo setup (single or twin) this same motor isn't (hasn't) shown weaknesses yet...once a proper high horsepower fuel systems are ready only then we'll know where the N54 motor sits..

Yep yep yep. Just wait for Unfor's dyno charts.

        All I gotta say is,

        1M + CP-E fuel rail + Standback 2 + twinscroll GTX3582r = WIN (even just on pump gas)

With the right rubber it could even play with the new ZR1s.........

I dont get you people. You salivate and hope that AMG drops the TT v8 in the C63 but you dont like when BMW drops a bin engine on the 1m. Same thing with the RS3 it has an engine from another car and I dont see anyone crying over it.

This car serves the same purpose as the X5M/X6M.

BMW has to cut development cost of its flagship M cars, the M5 and M3. In order to do so they're putting the next generation engines into the 1M and X5M/X6M in order to accelerate development, gather data, etc, all while actually selling a product.

^ Because M power was all about N/A engines with high RPM and high output ,but now it is changed and it will take time to get used to it. and the most important thing is the feeling , for me which my previous cars were all High revving cars ,it's hard to drive a FI ; it's my opinion and surely yours is different.
1M is a great car but doesn't have personality and character, and it's parts are taken from other cars which is not acceptable for us(atleast me).

That is what made M unique. High revving NA powerplants.

Now since they do the same, might as well get the most powerful.

The days of high revving NA powerplants are gone due to the price per gallon of fuel, not to mention government regulations on emissions and fuel economy
