    • APR releases 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen 3 Stage I engine tune software for the MKVII GTI and the Audi A3 2.0

Good news for owners of the new Volkswagen and Audi EA888 2.0 turbo motor. APR has released their tuning software for the engine which covers the 2014 up Audi A3 2.0 and the 2014 on MKVII Volkswagen Golf GTI. The software is flashed through the OBD-II port and has programs for 91 octane, 93 octane, and 100+ octane race gas. APR also bumps the redline up to 7100 rpm from the stock 6800 rpm.

So what are the gains? The baseline on a MKVII GTI is 210 horsepower at the wheels. On 91 octane with the APR tune this rises to 281 horsepower on the wheels. 93 octane boosts power further with the APR tune taking the car to 291 wheel horsepower. The race gas figure is 303 wheel horsepower.

APR did not take the tuned car to the drag strip but did some VBOX performance meter testing. Their 93 octane VBOX trap speed is 97.19 miles per hour. The trap rises to 110 miles per hour with the Stage I tune on 93 octane. This figure will be lower on an actual drag strip as the VBOX tends to read higher.

Dynographs and an acceleration video below. Solid work as always from APR.

$26,000 car + $500 tune = 110mph trap speeds? Not too shabby at all.

        $699.00

still a good buy though and there will be a hell of a lot fewer flash related failures as this can be done via OBDII unlike the TSI gen 1 which had to have the ECU cracked up to flash.

Very nice. 13mph trap gain is impressive for just a tune.

So is the motor the same in the 2011-13 gti's just the 14's hadn't had a tune until now? Are the gains on the 2011-13 the same with stage 1? Looking at getting a cpo 11,12, or 13 gti soon as a DD.

Ok, I didn't realize the 14's were mk7's. I had thought those were 15 and newer. Now that you mention it the salesman did mention that for the second half of 2014 they only got 4 door gti's. I'll see if I can get a good deal on a new 14 now that the 15's are here. So the mk7's can make a good deal more power tune only then the mk6?

I think they are 14 in Europe and 15 here.

Took a 15 for a quick test drive today. Didn't get to get on it at all but I'm going back tomorrow to work some numbers and take it for a longer test drive.

Got both for some development purposes.

So I see you and Terry teamed up to bring the JB4 awesomeness to the mk7! Need a beta tester? I live about 1.5 hrs from Terry.

I just picked up a 2015 GTI, SE w/LP & DSG last Thursday and threw the APR flash in the car already and wow what an amazing car overall. Great comfort, amazing amenities and frankly flashed its got so much power everywhere I am amazed. I do plan to remove the APR stage 1 shortly however. The reason is I plan to get an R in April and I would like to see what the JB4, Revo and HGP tuning solutions look like. I am at an even 600 miles (I know, but I drive over 25k annually so they rack up quickly LOL) and starting to give her the throttle more and minus the lack of traction in the 1st & 2nd gear its a blast. 3rd has some issues on the stock tires but not much.

the DSG is definitely a fun transmission, my old GTI have it and there are times where I definitely miss it.

I'm excited to see the development on these cars, word from APR is the HPFP can be upgraded (as well as injectors) so fueling will not be an issue on these engines like they were for the MK6 GTI/GLIs in the states. They supposedly have already begun mocking up a few large turbo designs.

I may start looking for jobs that require a commute so I have an excuse to get a "fuel efficient and practical daily driver."
