    • AMS / Alpha Performance is the first to break into the 10's with a 4Matic M157 - 10 second 2014 W212 E63 AMG

Congratulations to AMS for being the first to officially break the 10 second barrier with a 4Matic M157 AMG V8 powered vehicles. AMS ran a pair of 10 second passes showing the consistency of their 4Matic upgrades. As a reminder, AMS released their E63 AMG 4Matic ECU tuning earlier this year. They also provided a nice dynograph comparison of the 2014 E63 AMG 4Matic and the E63 AMG S 4Matic on the dyno stock and tuned.

The full details are below in @ALPHA Performance's own words:

On June 26th we took our 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG 4Matic to Great Lakes Dragway for some preliminary testing of the Alpha 7 upgrade package. Track conditions were not ideal with the temperature somewhat pleasant in the 60s but accompanied by 100% humidity. When the track lights switched on at dusk you could see the moisture in the air!

Our AMG was equipped with only our Alpha Tune and prototype Alpha Downpipes and Cat-Back Exhaust. The full Alpha 7 Bi-Turbo upgrade will include an Alpha Boost Cooler Kit in the future but we were eager to see the results of just a tune and exhaust. Rolling on 20 Vorsteiner wheels and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires we were hopeful for a very low 11 second run, but ended up with the first E63 4Matic in the 10s!

First pass of the night Paul staged the car, applied the brakes and gave it a bit of throttle, the launch was undramatic, smooth with no tire spin. When the board lit up we were a bit surprised, 10.850 @ 129.31 MPH, setting a new AMG 4Matic record! After letting the car cool down we staged it for another run, the car launched exactly the same as the first pass, hard with no drama and lit the board up with a 10.879 @ 129.21 MPH. Talk about consistency!

Overall we are very pleased with the results from the nights testing. Once the M157 Alpha Boost Cooler Kit and Carbon Fiber Intake System are complete we will bring the car back to the track for another round of testing and hopefully hit 130+mph trap along with a mid-low 10 second pass!

I meant that if you show 10.8 on glue it can never be the same on the ordinary tarmac we have.

Absolutely but that's the difference between setting your car up for the track and the street or highway.

Then go to the drag strip. Point is, the only way to keep the playing filed even is to require records to be set at a drag strip where timing and scoring is always the same. Sure the conditions change, but the way the run is recorded never does.

Well, it's pretty much the term "street car" or phrase definition line has been blurred by so many. Example use NOS, Meth injection, sacrificing emission/safety equipment, stand alone ECU with no SAE OBD readyness, etc. on emission controlled vehicles. You could pretty much grab a world record GTR after the pass, & if an emission EPA/DOT official would test it on the spot for emission & road worthy...it would certainly fail! But, I am not here to judge.

        Here's another SICK "street car":

Well, for us in Europe the results below of RENNtech, Gorilla, Evotech and so far are for sure more official than e.g. a single mobile phone picture of the racelogic box screen from someone doing 100-200 kph in under 6s with a 700hp tune only E63 or some other bull$#@! of that kind (possibly 50% downhill... I just saw that BS on some German forum)Click here to enlarge

        Here's another SICK "street car":
It's been blurred by those people who want a purpose built race car while calling it a "Street" car so they don't have to compete with real race cars. Like the jackass above rolling down the highway. So if I weld a trailer hitch on the back of an F1 car and pull a trailer down the highway, I guess my F1 car is a street car, too ?
If it can't be parallel parked, it's not a street car.
