    • Make it five straight - Audi's 2.5 TFSI turbocharged inline-5 wins the 2014 best 2.0-2.5 liter International Engine of the Year category

Who will dethrone the Audi 2.5 TFSI engine in the 2.0 - 2.5 liter category? It does not look like anybody will as Audi takes home its fifth straight award in this displacement category with their venerable 2.5 TFSI inline-5. The only real challenger appears to be Mazda's 2.2 liter SkyActiv diesel although that motor is not nearly as exciting as Audi's 2.5 TFSI. AudiBoost is a big fan of the 2.5 TFSI as it is a tuning dream.

Over 600 horsepower to the wheels with a turbo upgrade? Yep. It's the kind of motor we love here that not only offers great out of the box performance but can put out some serious aftermarket power.

So who will take the 2.5 TFSI down? Maybe Audi themselves. Current reports state that the next generation Audi RS3 is testing with a high output 2.0 liter four-cylinder instead of the 2.5 TFSI inline-5. The RS Q3 uses this motor though so it is not going out of production just yet and Audi did state a couple years back they intended to update the 2.5 TFSI engine.

Things have changed since then with AMG releasing the M133 four-cylinder and Audi wants to challenge the AMG motor for the title of most powerful four-cylinder. Hopefully Audi does not abandon the 2.5 TFSI as it truly is the best 2.0 - 2.5 liter engine in production.

Great motor, but I'd love it a whole lot more if they could deliver it in a sedan or hatch....

Well they did deliver it in a hatch already.

Or do you mean for the USA?

I'm hoping for the RS Q3 and the RS3 sedan so we'll see.
