    • Porsche 991 GT3 RS launch to be pushed back from summer to the end of the year due to engine fire issue

The good news is that a 991 GT3 RS is confirmed as on the way and deliveries were intended to start this summer. Unfortunately, due to the faulty 991 GT3 3.8 liter direct injected flat-6 engine rod bolts requiring every 991 GT3 engine to be replaced this will push the GT3 RS launch back. What this points to though is that the GT3 RS will have a direct injection engine based on the 991 GT3 and not a version of the previous generation GT1 block.

Spyphotos of what is supposedly the 991 GT3 RS circulated back in February but speculation was that Porsche included air intakes (which they have never done on a GT3 model, only the forced induction Turbo and GT2 models) for racing homologation purposes. There was also speculation that Porsche may not use the new direct injected motor due to these same racing homologation requirements.

Matthias Muller stated with in an interview with Auto Motor Und Sport that they know what is wrong and will make the changes to prevent this happening with the GT3 RS. Additionally, it appears there will be differences between the motors as he refers to the GT3 as having the 'other' flat-6 motor. How different these two motors are is unknown at this time.

Haha. We'll see what the next year brings. Either way, I'd like to see them on the streets and at least get some specs...a new GT3 RS always gets me excited.
