• Upcoming 2015/2016 W205 C63 AMG spotted testing on the Nurburgring and looking mean

The new W205 C-Class is a beautiful design evoking many of the design elements of its more expensive lineup siblings. The C300 and C400 look great but what we are really waiting to see is the top of the line high performance C63 AMG variant. It's coming and it is looking quite aggressive. The styling changes of course include the AMG bodywork including the integrated rear diffuser featuring the AMG angled quad exhaust tips.

The front gets the more aggressive AMG single bar style grille. The fenders for whatever reason are the only area lacking in increased aggression as there does not appear to be any additional flaring for bigger meat. Is Mercedes AMG saving that sort of aggression that for a Black Series variant?

As reported dozens of times already expect the M177 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 under the hood mated to a rear wheel drive powertrain and an automatic transmission. Horsepower should be close to 500 but has yet to be finalized.

I like. I just hope it's not called the C63...I'd much prefer C55. Other than that, this car should be epic.

Definitely agree on the C55 name.

Also interested to see what it will weigh...guessing nowhere near the M3/4 but with the power surplus it might not matter. Steering feel will be the name of the game here.

The question is just how much heavier it will be.

Going to call it right now, 3700 pounds. Not light, but way lighter than the old one and not too far off the E90 M3. And honestly, the old C63 did not feel too heavy on its feet despite its nearly 4000 pounds. So if they can pull that off again with the new car, things should get very interesting.

I'm thinking 3700+ too. Someone on here seems to think it will match the M3/M4 weight and I'm just like uh huh ok.

I have a (possibly) dumb question about listed curb weights, having weighed my own C63 @ a local Mayflower movers location after seeing so many variations depending on publication.

So, one day before driving up to see Mickey and hit LegoLand with the wife, stopped by and weighed in @ 4,040 lb.

(Shut up, smart A$$es Click here to enlarge.....LegoLand is cool; so is Space Mountain. 0-60 in 1.7 seconds by my watch.)

Then after subtracting the fuel just prior to filling up - about 14 gallons @ 7 lb./gallon - and our junk-in-the-trunk, arrived at around 3,920 lb.

A porker, to be sure, but as leverage sellout alluded to, sure coulda fooled me. Not to mention, if they can keep the weight down - not traditionally AMG's forte' (aka, an engine builder's problem) - it could give the lighter, more 50/50 balanced M3 an even better run for its money.

Question: Do listed curb weights reflect a full tank of gas or empty?

Been trying to find that out for the longest, so can somebody or anybody set me straight??

        ***************************

To the curb weight topic, according to Motor Authority.com regarding the basic C-Class models & not the AMG of course, the new platform saves a couple hundred - give or take.....some snippets below. That said, I'd like to think y'all are estimating correctly.

The new C-Class, which launches as a 2015 model, will offer a new level of luxury, quality and technology never previously seen in the C-Class, with some attributes never previously seen in the segment. This is made possible by Mercedesí flexible MRA platform underpinning the car, which will eventually feature in the larger E-Class and S-Class models.

The platform features a mix of aluminum, high-strength steels and even some composites. This saves around 150 pounds compared to conventional steel construction. Together with other weight-saving measures, engineers have managed to cut as much as 220 pounds off the weight of the outgoing C-Class for its successor.

At the same time, the new C-Class is said to be safer and more rigid. A high-strength safety passenger compartment and specifically developed deformation zones with optimized force dissipation paths in the front end and rear, as well as an exterior skin that is made virtually entirely of aluminum, allow these requirements to be met.

I don't like the design of the Merc at all, but as with women beauty is in the eye of the beholder and highly subjective.

That being said, I'm sure this C63 will give the M3 a run for its money. I don't think the weight will be that much different - the M3 with a few options will also weigh close to 1700kg, and if the C63 is just a bit heavier it will outweigh (sic) this with its higher power output.

Without even mentioning the tuning possibilities which will be far, far beyond of what is possible with the M3 due to the larger engine.

The M3 might still win in the handling department (due to its lower weight and better balance), steering feel (traditionally a weak point for AMGs), transmission (DCT should be faster, also another traditional AMG problem) and fuel consumption (not that anyone cares about that).

        This will remain interesting.

HAHA I didn't say the C63 would be the same weight as the M3 I said its going to be a lot closer then you think. As you've discovered yourself the 3300 pound curb weight claim is bull$#@! and its dry weight. Add around 50 pounds for the carbon ceramics most people wont get since that will be an almost 10K option and youll have something closer to 3500 pounds. If the Merc can stay within 200 pounds its larger motor should give It the straightline edge.I really don't give a #$%* I just go on the forums to have educated conversations about cars. I will be picking up a c7 stingray in 4 weeks to play around with until my c7 z06 comes in(8 people ahead at the dealership) that will blow both of these cars out of the water

The C63 is going to be heavier. Period.

Im relaxed but I had way to much coffee today LMAO

Awesome !!! I have a cyber gray Z51 coupe coming in its pretty basic just 2LT and performance exhaust I kept it simple since I will lose money anyway and im really just filling the gap until my z06 comes in. & sorry its a 6speed Auto and im getting the PDK Killer(lol jk) 8 speed auto. C63 is great and I love the m156 but I hate the weight and the crazy expensive aftermarket with limited choices. Plus I want a lumpy cam I just need a lumpy ass idle. Chevyboost/domestic boost should come into play perfectly. When you planning on picking one up?

If it was red I'd just take it off your hands when the Z06 comes in that way killing two birds with one stone.

I wanted one by this summer but it looks like I have to pay another $xxxxx for the never ending M3. So I may have to target later in the year instead because of that f'ing BMW.

I'm honestly way more exciting about chevyboost/gmboost/domesticboost than any of this other stuff. Tapping the domestic market is where the money is really at and I'm sick of the German car scene. I've almost maxed it out anyway.

Am I the only one that hates the look of this car vs the old c63 AMG? This car looks huge and not aggressive. It looks like a smaller s class. I like the older c63.

@Sticky your really going to get a c7? I saw one on the road today... Ehh didn't do it for me. Chevy has improved it but it doesn't have the presence of the m3 or c63 on the road IMO

I need something to drive around that's fun. I'm so sick of running into fast cars in my Cayenne.
