    • TX2K14 - Protomotive 3.8 liter 996 Turbo versus UGR Twin Turbo Audi R8 V10 roll on

The videos from the first TX2K14 event of the year are beginning to trickle out and here is an interesting roll on match up. The camera car is a Protomotive built 996 Turbo with a 3.8 liter motor putting out whatever it is putting out to hit a best 1/4 mile trap speed of 151.8 miles per hour and a 60-130 sprint of 4.67 seconds. However much power it happens to make is a lot considering this Underground Racing built R8 5.2 V10 is at 1250 wheel horsepower and they go door to door.

The R8 in the video is apparently Brandon Jacobs car that has shown 1831 horsepower to the wheels. It clearly is not running 1831 wheel horsepower and why it is at a claimed 1250 horsepower is anyone's guess. The Porsche 996 Turbo is definitely at 1000+ as well though.

Traction is said to be an issue and the oval roll on although neat seems to be fairly short. The run is about 1500 feet meaning slightly more than a 1/4 mile. Definitely not enough distance for cars at this horsepower level.

The horsepower out at this event is borderline insane. It's funny how you can define quick/fast. 500hp? 1000hp? 1500? 2000hp? Where will this end? Click here to enlarge

In that situation, I'd rather have the "robot" and keep my car straight at tripple digit speeds.

Good write up and thanks for posting. It was a good event and the rwd cars like my 996 had a hard time with traction. It was hard to warm them (tires) up in such a short distance. This was one of the only races that I was able to hook. We started from 65mph. We trapped 167mph in this run.

        No problem.

Are you sharing specs on your car or not at this time?

The reason I ask is this UGR R8 is supposed to be 1700+ whp capable and as I understand it you are somewhere in the low 1000 range.

Sure, as far as I know this R8 is a stage 3 car (1250hp). My car (Porsche 3.8L) makes about 1100rwhp.
