    • The evolution of the BMW kidney grille from 1972 to 2014+ summarized in a single photo

A neat piece of marketing here from BMW who has mastered the art. The signature BMW kidney grille obviously evolved over time along with the design of the cars. The original design was much more elongated and vertical. This gave way to a wider and more aggressive style in the 80's best exemplified by the E30 3-Series. BMW got away from the sharp angles going to a more elegant design with the E63 6-Series as pictured in 2006.

That brings us to the modern 2013 interpretation which is wider than ever before but maintaining a uniform diameter on the edge. Then of course there is the last grille on the right of the photo reminding us of what is to come which is a nod to the BMW 'i' division.

A nice and simple way to capture BMW's history as well as its future.

You mean of automotive manufacturers in general? If so I have to agree.

Yeah that's what I meant. Distinctive as hell, also attractive.
