    • Comparing the 991 GT3 3.8 direct injected flat-6 to the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 flat-6 in acceleration from 0-300 km/h

      This video comes from the French publication MotorSport Magazine. Essentially they did a run from 0-300 km/h (186 miles per hour) in a 997 GT3 RS 4.0 flat-6 which has the old GT1 based motor that does not have direct injection and the new 991 GT3 3.8 flat-6 with direction and compiled them into a video. It would have been nice to see the cars run at the same time against one another to show the real world difference but this will have to suffice.

      The 991 GT3 is rated at 475 horsepower versus the 500 horsepower for the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 but even though it has less power it accelerates quicker thanks to the PDK transmission. The GT3 RS 4.0 is also a bit underrated in output with 457 horsepower going to the rear wheels. PorscheBoost does not have a 991 GT3 Dynojet graph to compare yet but it will be interesting to see how it stacks up to the previous generation 997 GT3 4.0 and the 3.8 as well.

      The 991 GT3 is also 154 pounds heavier than the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 making its acceleration advantage all the more impressive.

        Regarding the 991, BBi's engine builder has been teasing with a 4.0L 997.2/991 Turbo build. They've also mentioned a DFI fueling + PDK upgrade Click here to enlarge

        The 991 has a smaller, less powerful motor and is a heavier car than the 997 4.0 and yet it still hits 100km/h full second quicker. That is the power of tighter gearing used in conjunction with a very high redline.
