    • Is 480 horsepower stock out of the 4.0 liter M177 turbo V8 enough for the 2015 W205 C63 AMG?

480 horsepower is certainly a good amount of power and that is what Autoweek is reporting the upcoming 2015 W205 C63 AMG will put out from its twin turbo 4.0 liter M177 V8 motor. That is more power than the previous generation W204 C63 AMG had stock at 451 but about equal to its 481 horsepower with the optional P31 Performance Package. Let's say the new C63 matches the P31 W204 and has 481 horsepower. Is that enough?

To hold off the upcoming F80 M3 and F82 M4's 425 horsepower S55B30 motor it is likely just enough. Keep in mind the W204 C63 was rated at 37 horsepower more than the E92 M3 and had a larger motor but due to the M3 being lighter and having an optional dual clutch transmission it was a driver's race with similar acceleration figures.

It looks like history is set to repeat itself as the W205 C63 AMG will not have a dual clutch transmission option and is likely to be heavier than the 3306 pound M3/M4. The W205 C-Class is lighter than the W204 but we will have to see how much weight Mercedes is really able to cut from the C63 AMG. Even getting into the 3600 pound range sounds optimistic.

This next generation battle is shaping up similarly to the previous generation with the C63 having the bigger motor and being heavier whereas the M3 is lighter and relies on efficiency technology such as its dual clutch transmission. The wildcard is another performance package from Mercedes which BenzBoost already confirmed. BMW this time around with a turbo motor though will be able to respond with a performance package of their own as the do on the M5/M6 models.

Brute force versus efficiency? Something in the middle? We shall have to wait and see.

        Negative.
The C7 ZO6 is going to smoke the GT3.

If rear engine was so good, why is the entry level Porsche boxeter, AND their SUPERCARS, all mid-engine?
        I rest my case.
Your best friend could be a talking Porsche for all it matters. The 911 is rear engine due to the tradition of the 911. Nothing wrong with the 911 being what it is supposed to be.

You're comparing an M3 to a Z06. That makes a ton of sense. Please, do go on.

My car is a joke compared to a 911 turbo or GTR yet it makes double the HP? LOL ok. What do you drive again?

Your red text is annoying by the way. Stop using it.

The only joke is your points and posts. You come off like a raving lunatic.

Please tell me you're not really stupid enough to believe that and you're just messing with me.
If you're serious, you better open a book and learn the difference between a DCT and a torque converter.
If you actually look into the topic there is some truth to the statement.

So Porsche is smart and stupid at the same time. They make a C4S and Carrera S. The stupider engineers work on the RWD 911 while the smart ones work on the AWD 911.

Why didn't I see that before?

He's talking about the driver's car competition which is not determined by performance but by how well a car drives... which is why the rear wheel drive Carrera S won it.

I knew exactly what he meant.
        I stand by my statement.
        The C7 ZO6 will SMOKE the GT3.

Frankly, all things considered, it's a joke that the C7 didn't beat out the C4s.

Nobody is denying that or even talking about that. You are throwing in a statement that doesn't even apply to the discussion. Both of those cars are RWD by the way and better for it.

I don't know why you are so confounded by such a simple concept.
        Rear engine is pathetic.
Prosche's PDK is the best trans you can buy and their AWD system is amazing.
Too bad they are too stupid and arrogant to offer both the AWD and Turbo engine in the Cayman.
I'd buy that car tomorrow with the current Cayman S price.

AMG has no excuse for no DCT in the C63 when Porsche puts a PDK in the Panamera.

IF YOU LOOK INTO THE NEW TRANSMISSION YOU'LL UNDERSTAND WHY IT CAN PERFORM CLOSE TO OR EVEN OUTPERFORM SOME DCT'S

I'm not confused at all here.

Rear engine has certain advantages. I'm glad Porsche continues to produce the 911 and that they honor their history with it considering the important role it has played for the company.

I do believe dual clutches are the best performance option.

I sincerely believe Porsche scours the forums wondering what car to make to gain your business in particular.

I would find the C63 more appealing with a dual clutch. It's not getting a dual clutch. Come to terms with it.
