The motor apparently already surpassed the Mercedes AMG M133 2.0 liter four cylinder which at 355 horsepower holds the title for world's most powerful production four cylinder engine. Torque on the beefed up VW 2.0 liter would go up to the 332 pound-feet which would match the AMG engine.
Apparently if VW is pushed they could up output to 400 horsepower and 369 pound-feet which head of engine development Friedrich Eichler says is within reason. Take that amount of horsepower and torque combined with a DSG transmission, all wheel drive, and a 3086 pound curb weight and you have the most badass Golf ever made.
400 horsepower from a production 2.0 liter four-cylinder is astounding. Anything approaching 400 from a 2.0 liter motor with a factory warranty shows just how efficient engines are getting.
So more power, less weight, a dual clutch trans, and all wheel drive with a concept debut set for April. What's not to like? The possibility Volkswagen puts the car in limited production and skips over the USA. That would be so cruel it borders on criminal. It also would mean VW more than deserves to continue to take losses in the US market indefinitely.
