    • Who has the most powerful E46 M3 in the world? Undercover Performance going for the record with 1200+ horsepower turbo E46 M3 S54

Who has the most powerful E46 M3 in the world? There are conflicting reports all around. A certain BimmerBoost user proclaims they have the most powerful E46 M3 based on 60-130 runs but without a standard dyno to compare on it's difficult to say. The now defunct HPF (Horsepower Freaks) made over 1000 wheel horsepower with a Stage V setup using a Precision 8285 turbocharger. Undercover Performance is throwing their hat in the ring to claim the title also boasting over 1000 wheel horsepower.

This car has a Precision 7675 turbocharger and is running E85. The result on a Mustang Dyno is 1058 wheel horsepower with room to spare. Undercover states there is room to push further but at this point it is up to the customer if they want to take any more risks. Where this level of horsepower stands in the E46 M3 spectrum is tough to say until we can definitively establish on a single dyno who is making what horsepower. For example, what would this particular car put down on a Dynojet? Likely quite a bit more.

Regardless, the specifications and dynograph are below. This certainly is one of the strongest E46 M3's out there.

      1058 rwhp
      785 rwtrq
      E85

Hell of a job... Congrats!! I'm sure we will see higher numbers soon from you guys...

But just so you know... Sound Performance did 1071whp and Andreas from Sweden did 1260whp. So I think Sweden has the record. And who knows what dyno graphs Mert can toss in from his experience.

The sweedish dyno results are crankshaft and not in a e46 as well. And if I was on Larrys dyno..... It'd made moreClick here to enlarge

Neither are for the faint wallet unfortunately. This particular combo is around 16k plus 6k for internals and machining on the short block.

wow! that's cheap considering your power level is up there you'll definitely beat my GT-R both in the 1/4 or roll and i'm close to $90k in her. You're makin me think guys i'm a lurker here and don't post much until i saw you accomplishment, your location?

will the SMG survives this power level?

The SMG is the same mechanical transmission. It simply has hydraulics to shift it and engage the clutch. So the answer is yes, it will.

Are you using a standalone TCU for the transmission? I'm wondering how easy/hard it would be to put it in a 335i

Awesome job BTW! Too bad it couldn't have been taken to redline....but I understand the owner's POV.

Nope. We let the factory computer control it. However I have a customer working on smg control through ProEFI now. I wish I had more time to devote to R&D. If it was going in a 335 why wouldn't you stay manual?

Probably not that difficult. But man it would be expensive. I'd lean towards a e9x m3 with twin turbosClick here to enlarge

I have a 6AT, manual would be a step back, and I'd only want to swap transmissions if it were to be a higher performance faster shifting auto like the e46 SMG or the e92 DCT. Other option is to try building the 6AT which no one has done with much success yet.

About how much would it cost to build the SMG to be "bulletproof" or at least hold 700-800 ft/lb of torque at a dragstrip?

i'm highly considering doin a killer set up i have two e46 m3s one (03) with hpf S2 already has a ProEfi set up but with stockish motor and newer SMG and one (02 vert) with a fully built motor 6 speed but has a T Trim blower but no ProEfi, so i'm thinkin transferring the hpf kit and ProEfi to the 02 since the motor can support the hp build, i'll be happy with 800 solid reliable rwhp if you don't mind it's a vert and show car condition. i'll come down to your shop and inspect your facility as well as check your M3 with the mogu hp. PM sent.

Sounds like you could save some $ being you already have what it takes. 800 honest may be a stretch withbthe hpf manifold. But we can sure as hell tryClick here to enlarge

Andreas holds the record with a Phoenix Yellow E46 M3. Iirc, he did something like 1140 early 2013 and somewhere around Aug, he was around that mentioned 1200whp.

        Great results none the less.

This is my 990 whp on dyno Dynamics back in 2010, march. Date is shown on left bottom. Measured in shoot out mode which reads 15 % less than dyno jet. This is 1150 whp on dno jet.

        Attachment 35469

This 990 whp Dynamics was out of 3,2L and from a less developed S54.
When I road tested the above power on road I was disappointed, very late spool.

During the 4 years we managed to improve S54, now it is 3500 cc, 12;5 compression, custom cams, custom head work....
As of today, low and mid range has improved dramatically. I dynoed up to 6000 rpm to see the difference. Thanks GOD low / mid range improved from 180 whp up to 280 whp. My S54 B35 hits 15 psi in 2nd gear @ 3700 rpm, 30 psi @ 4500 rpm with twin 62 mm turbos as of today.

BTW I like your Project, keep up the good work. Other power, focus on traction, traction. These RWD M3s suffer from loss of traction. Not the strongest M3 will be the fastest, but the M3 with best traction will be the fastestClick here to enlarge
