BMW on the other hand equates being number one in sales to being the best. BMW's philosophy amusingly seems to be, 'if you're not first, you're last.' Well BMW, you lost in 2013. This despite attempting to push out every variant possible to boost sales and possibly even manipulating the numbers.
Mercedes came up with the number one spot without actively trying to capture it. The final tally in the US for 2013 was 312,534 new Mercedes sold or 3,254 more cars than BMW. It is by building better cars from the bottom to the top of the lineup that Mercedes got the sales crown they deserved. Hopefully this teaches BMW a lesson. It likely will not though. Expect BMW to fire back with more BMW badged Mini Coopers to boost numbers.
