    • Watch a BMW S1000RR bike destroy a Veyron Vitesse and a Lamborghini Aventador from a stop and from a roll

The BMW S1000RR is an absolutely amazing superbike offering world-class performance. We spend most of our time talking about cars here but forget just how important power to weight really is. What better way to illustrate that point than by watching the BMW S1000RR humiliate the Lamborghini Aventador and the Bugatti Veyron Vitesse. The Aventador is never even in the race and the Veyron fairs better but gets smoked as well.

Keep in mind this is the even more powerful 1200 horsepower version of the Veyron making the bike's performance all the more impressive. There are two videos below with one from a stop from the bike's perspective against the Veyron and Aventador and another video showing the Veyron and S1000RR going at it from a roll.

The Veyron gets a jump in the second and third roll on races fairing much better with aerodynamics eventually coming into play once it really stretches its legs. The Veyron is obviously designed for much higher speeds than just about... anything. Still, by the time the Veyron reaches speeds that favor it any sane person is shutting their bike down. That the Veyron has to cheat to just try to keep pace is incredible in of itself.

That BMW bike is no joke. I wonder how the Ducati 1199 Panigale would fare?

Yeah, I'd be really interested in both what a tune and some "bolt-ons" could do, and what a turbo upgrade could do. When I was doing some research on our N54 turbos I found it interesting they were Mitsubushi turbos on the Veryon.

Like $15k. But it also is missing a quad turbo motor, all wheel drive, and the ability to have a friend hit 250 with you.

It's just math, power and weight and drag - the bike has a lot of power to move each pound of mass, so it will talk away off the line, but given a few miles both cars will drive around the bike as bikes have terrible drag.

Drag shouldn't be TOO bad tucked

yeah the cd is probably double that of the veyron, but the bike+rider has a lot less surface area, where the veyron has a few square meters?

Yeah I'm pretty sure that wasn't 200, which is why the veyron never passed it. Wish they showed the speeds, though, that would be cool.

I was on the back of a Suzuki Katana 1100 in the mid 1980's going 110 mph and that was enough for me

The cars have a lot more power than the bikes. That is why they eventually run them down in the top end. However, a turbo Hayabusa or ZX-14R with 500+ rwhp properly ridden and geared will not be caught period by the Veyron, Adventador insert Supercar here " ". Some of them are running 270mph+ in the standing mile. Power to weight as posted earlier and while the cars may have superior cd they have a much larger frontal area. There was a guy in Montana Hank Booth who dynoed 701 rwhp at a shoot out in GA or FLA around 8-10 years ago. I have not kept up so it may have been surpassed. I would still have any of the super cars any day over the bike.

It isn't just about power it's about power to weight and aerodynamics.

Agreed. That is pretty much what I was saying. It is the total aerodynamics not just the coefficient of drag. The frontal area is import and has to be factored in. Power to weight, gearing, and grip for acceleration and gearing, aerodynamics, grip and power for top speed.
