    • New quickest and fastest BMW N55 1/4 mile record - Vargas Turbo Tech upgraded and JB4 tuned 335 runs 11.4@123

Congratulations are in order to BMS (Burger Motorsports) and Vargas Turbo Technologies on pushing the N55 BMW platform to new hights. Aftermarket BMW tuning has been dominated by the BMW N54 twin turbo motor up until this point and the newer single turbo N55 inline-6 motor has not received quite as much attention. As the N54 is out of production the N55 is finally getting a bit of tuner love and the proof is below in a new quickest and fastest world record 1/4 mile run.

This 335 is the same car that set the N55 horsepower record last week with a 468 wheel horsepower run on a Dynojet thanks to its upgraded turbocharger from Vargas. BMS did the tuning and the result is a new world record in the real world on the drag strip. The 335 in question in an automatic vehicle and the run took place at the Famoso drag strip in California.

This is still very early in the upgraded turbocharger game for the N55 motor so enthusiasts can expect the numbers to improve over the next year as the N55 motor finally gets to the next level. Congratulations to all involved, well done.

        Hi Tony.
I've got a few question, maybe you can take a few moments and answer them for me / us?:
1.) I've written with PTF, they told me that they don't know when and if they will provide an eTune for the N55. Anything from your side?
2.) Do you think there are another (at least ~ 500rwhp) few horses to gain with a ProTune?
3.) Do you think the housing limits us in terms of rwhp or can it be improved with design changes?

To be honest, I need more horses for now (~ 500rwhp)..

4.) Do you think I should get an N54? Stage 3 tuning is not an option to be honest.
5.) What's even more important to me is the boost preasure throughout the rpm-band. High preasure = good = more power = fun. Do you think we can improve something here?

        1. I cannot speak for PTF, they have their own things going and are busy working diligently to get everything they are working on done. When they can get the N55 tuning going rest assured they will.
        2. If there is more power in a pro tune we do not know until it is tried. The N55 tuning will catch up. Tuning takes time, patience is key here.
        3. The housing limits are the housing limits, short of casting a New turbofold with a bigger turbine A/R this is the biggest turbine wheel you can safely stuff in there, when it is maxed out, the turbine will be maxmizing its flow. I personally do not feel we are there yet and think we may have other things holding us back, IE, tune, possible gate being pushed open etc. We will be testing these out in the near future

To be honest, the odds of you being able to feel 14 hp by seats of the pants is slim, the car makes 486 now I believe. I understand 500 is like a magic number, and I do think with more testing we can get there.

        4. If you want 500 WHP the N54 can get you there with a basic stage 2 upgrade, but at those levels the turbos are taxed and it can takes it toll on them.
        5. Boost pressure up until you reach the BP limit is 100% dictated by the wastegate, if you want more boost down low you can have it, its up top where BP, and possible gate opening that seems to be the problem. Hope this helps at all.

        Thank you Tony.
Explained in a super cool manner. Seems like things will take some time. I'll sit here and wait.
