    • New quickest and fastest BMW N55 1/4 mile record - Vargas Turbo Tech upgraded and JB4 tuned 335 runs 11.4@123

Congratulations are in order to BMS (Burger Motorsports) and Vargas Turbo Technologies on pushing the N55 BMW platform to new hights. Aftermarket BMW tuning has been dominated by the BMW N54 twin turbo motor up until this point and the newer single turbo N55 inline-6 motor has not received quite as much attention. As the N54 is out of production the N55 is finally getting a bit of tuner love and the proof is below in a new quickest and fastest world record 1/4 mile run.

This 335 is the same car that set the N55 horsepower record last week with a 468 wheel horsepower run on a Dynojet thanks to its upgraded turbocharger from Vargas. BMS did the tuning and the result is a new world record in the real world on the drag strip. The 335 in question in an automatic vehicle and the run took place at the Famoso drag strip in California.

This is still very early in the upgraded turbocharger game for the N55 motor so enthusiasts can expect the numbers to improve over the next year as the N55 motor finally gets to the next level. Congratulations to all involved, well done.

36 on the street, lowered them to 25 at the track.

Wow if the motor will take more this will be FAST. Awesome post-shift boost through that entire log. @Terry@BMS how do you feel about the block? From the limited tuning i've seen on the 55, it looks over-advanced pretty quickly and things are tighter in the block. Congrats to you and Tony

Solid traps, you now match an FBO N54 lol.

lol! if only most stock turbo e90 n54's could run low 11's @ 123+. These are RB N54 times he's posting, and fast ones at that.

Pretty sure stock turbo n54 trap record is 122mph so let's not get carried away here.

Except how much tuning, and time spent tweaking that tune to get those FBO traps, lets see what the first FBO car did on the track with limited tuning and a boost cap. I am not sure how much more that turbo has in it, but I guarantee it has more. That turbo is just waking up at 20 psi down low, how much it can eventually hold, only time will tell.

Very impressed with the outcome of your kit and am excited to see what happens when the 3.5bar sensor is pushed and opens up that boost cap...I take it orders are now shipping?

We have 4 upgrades fully machined and ready to go, looks like 3 of them will be leaving next week, and one will be staying for an in house install. things could change, but we did just buy another 7 cores, so we now have 13 more cores all going out for machining.

I think you are wrong... check dragtimes. 123.9 has been seen. This was also on a car running 18psi on stockers on E85 no meth. Not saying this isn't solid... it certainly is over the stock N55 setup but it's still embarrassing when compared to the previous motor when there is tons of over 120 MPH cars on stockers.

It's 125mph. Click here to enlarge But, was done with a lighter car.

At ~470whp this N55 is faster than the average maxed out stock turbo n54 but not as fast as the average maxed out RB n54. There is hopefully a few more HP in this with more tuning time though.

lol... well... i guess 10 whp is worth something right, how about that 460 stocker dyno?

Nah, I gotta stock hating. I look forward to seeing this go further; I just feel really bad for the individuals who bought an N55 thinking it was a new and updated N54 when in fact it's a true downgrade in terms of performance.

Here is a fairly "fair" comparison of a aggressively tuned N54 stock turbo and the N55 VT. You can see the N55 has the edge here by maybe 15hp up top and there is still more in it. But I don't expect it will get near N54 RB levels nor should anyone expect it to. 470whp on an N55 is enough for mid 11s and makes for a strong car in its own right regardless of any N54 comparison.

No doubt... I just wish another 35-40 WHP could come out of this... A touch north of 500 would be great.

Awesome results, Terry does not f%'K around, relentless dedication, and props to Tony for this upgrade allowing n55 guys to truly have a fast Street car now , no stock turbo n54 car is running 124 unless it's a 135 in - 2000 da or a car ran on the edge of death which this car is the polar opposite of Click here to enlarge

Turbo should be good for 30 psi with racegas in the midrange, if fueling permits. I can see this turbo hang with RB's or be in the same range easily. Turn up the boost Terry, these kind of turbos need it to be efficient. You're barely touching that turbos good side. LOL

That wheel combo has made 510@26psi. I know people running it at 34psi lol. If the engine hold up I'm betting Terry can hit the 500hp mark. I know the housing isn't the same as the Garrett offering but I'm still betting we eventually so 500hp here. Which will make an n55 with this turbo faster than an RB n54 once Cobb is able to adjust valvetronic tables.

Waiting to see responses from n54 crowd lol

This wheel combo has made over 613 WHP in a .63 AR housing, on E85 made made 533 on 93 and meth .63AR.

You can see all the examples I found here: http://www.bimmerboost.com/showthrea...854#post486854

This Wheel combo is good for very high WHP numbers, we will just see where this housings caps at, but we are no where near to death levels, and the Garrett DBB CHRA's will last much much longer than an MHI once those death levels are found. I would dare as to say would last 10 times as long at levels that would kill an MHI JB CHRA. Bottom line, we will see what we can get, but there is more in there.
