    • The 2014 F80 M3 leaks early - High resolution pictures and ordering guide

      Well, here it finally is the 2014 F80 M3. There is nothing surprising here styling wise as the car was already seen back in October undisguised on public roads. It is nice to have official photos that are higher resolution though without having to look at grainy spyphotos. As you likely already know, the car will feature a twin turbo inline-6 motor known as the S55 with 430 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque mated to either a manual or dual clutch transmission.

      BMW is aiming the keep the weight in the 3306 pound range which hopefully they will pull off.

      We will have to wait for further details such as pricing when BMW does an official press release but for now enjoy the photos below.

        The color options for the F80 M3 are much, much, much better than what the E9X had.

        Both the 2 and 4 door look great, I really can't decide which looks better. Normally I'm a coupe guy so they really did a good job with this sedan

        I have to agree, they both look great. They did a better job with the sedan this time around IMO.

        I prefer the proportions of the M3 over the M4. The M4, although very nice, still has that strange overweight/blob look to the rear fender area, where as the M3 as a crisper defined arches. I'd take either in a heartbeat though, a very nice progression from the E90/E92 era, and I like how they managed to blend in old-school M designs such as the M badge on the front grill.

        Both are in need of a contrasting exhaust diffuser such as that was on the M4 concept.

        So agressive!! it looks so amazing, the styling between the M3 and M4 are hard to really choose between.

        Im still super disappointed in the engine... I was in the N54 life for 6 years with my coupe and sedan FBO. The issues are never ending with these engines, DI causing carbon buildup, two turbos adding to complexity and issues, hopefully fuel pump and injector issues have been worked out..
        335is with a JB4 im sure is putting out as much HP with the same 7spd DCT/DI twin turbo I6 layout. Just a Extreme shame BMW M engines are something extremly special like there last generations.
        I do hope these engines have some good tunability in them.
        Going from a masterpiece of a V8 engine noise and revving, to this is a lil bit of a step backwards for me personally. I had enough of the twin turbo I6 from BMW.
        If this thing had a bit more tuned and revised V8 in it!!! I would trade my M5 for it the day it comes out.

        I would hold off on the judgement until you drive it at the very least. For me, I would like to see it on an independent scale. The motor will deliver.

        I agree. I am of the option the turbo engines in the 335 were a precursor to the turbo engine in the new M3/M4. BMW gave themselves seven years to work out the kinks in their new turbo straight sixes before putting a more refined version in the M3/M4.

        You have to realize a large company like BMW doesn't do much without thinking many years into the future. I'm sure when the 335 came out in the E9x chassis, they had their sights on putting a turbo straight six in the next gen M cars.

        BMW used the N54 in the 1M years after it being released, it didnt stop them. The N55 was released years after the N54 aswell and still had issues. So im not so sure. Either way its DI, im almost certain its gonna have carbon buildup issues.
        Outside of the issues and all. It just a shame to have a setup that is so similar to the generation prior 3 series, 7 DCT with a DI I6 twin turbo. Its a shame. 424hp in a M3 isnt good enough IMHO either, you got 550i luxury sedans with 445hp now. The noise the current V8 M3 makes is amazing, the I6 twin turbo cant compare. ( And i was a N54 owner for 6 years)
        Let alone the new C63 is rumored to have a small TT V8 coming in it.
        Engine is a fail, for me anyways, i feel its a step back. Being in a M car is about experience, the engine is almost always half give or take to each owner. The TT I6 is a experience every 3 series for the last 6-7 years has experienced, there isnt anything to be seen with this engine. When BMW put the High revving V8 in the E9X M's, the experience was amazing and unique.
        Styling, chassis setup is a huge win.

        According to the options sheet provided by BimmerBoost, an adaptive suspension, 19-inch wheels and a head-up display will be available as optional goodies, along with a range of more traditional luxury options like heated and powered seats, a parking assistant, side and top-view cameras and LED lighting.

        It will be treated differently as the S4 is with Audi and the AMG is with Merc.

        Not sure what is going be treated differently?People in general just being excited about the engine because it is an M car?

        This is a TT DI I6 with a DCT, an engine and tranny that alot of 3 series owners have experience before. Outside of the chassis, This engine and tranny isnt anything amazingly new and exciting by a long shot.
        I think this was a mistake BMW made with this car, cuz otherwise its so GREAT! IDC what anyone says, HP numbers matter and to have an M3 with 424hp, a few more then previous gen, sounding worse while WOT, and having less HP then BMW 5 series family sedan, its just really wrong. Have 335is coupe running around with the same basic layout making as much or more power with just a tune.

        My take on it anyways, Next Gen C63 with the V8 TT engine will be a monster of an engine.

        I think the head design of the S55 will give it a little different power band than the N5x engines. While I think the N5x engines were a precursor to the S55, I would hardly say they are the same.
