    • The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series loses out as Road and Track's 2013 Performance Car of the Year to... the C7 Corvette

Well, a bit of a bummer here to see the SLS AMG Black Series lose to the new C7 Corvette but this is clearly a value decision. Road and Track put it best themselves: "Yet there was a stubborn minority holding out for the AMG, regardless of cost. It's the car of our dreams in many respects. Shouldn't it be PCOTY, even if most of us will never see one on the street? 'If we're going to pick the Vette because of cost,' one editor snapped, 'why not go all the way and pick the Fiesta? It's the best value.'

That editor has a point. If value is the key part of the equation nothing is really going to beat the Ford Fiesta ST. If the SLS AMG Black Series did not cost multiples of the Corvette's price it would be the winner here. Out of all the cars up for the award, it is the quickest and fastest of the bunch. Take a look at the data panel below to see how all the challengers stacked up.

If you want the best and can afford the best, it's the SLS. If you can't, the C7 is definitely the next best thing and certainly worthy of the award. It just is not the highest performance option of the cars included.

You know its amazing what a 100lbs difference can be on two cars of near identical HP/TRQ ratings for the JC Mini and Fiesta ST.

The C7 has aftermarket capabilities that would make it a very dangerous car! I'd like to see a S/C C7 vs a S/C Weistec SLS AMG BS give each other a go and see what it could be then!

have to say it MB E63 Wagon FTW!

We'll see how the C7 tuners deal with the direct injection. The M156/M159 doesn't have this liability.
