• Mercedes C117 CLA250 M270 2.0 liter direct injected four-cylinder dyno numbers - 181 wheel horsepower

The Mercedes-Benz C117 CLA250 is the entry level Mercedes vehicle for the US market. It features a 2.0 liter turbocharged and direct injected motor rated at an output 208 crank horsepower. Not exactly what one would call a powerhouse of a motor and nowhere near as powerful as its underrated M133 2.0 liter turbo sibling powering the CLA45 AMG. That said, this being a turbo motor and the entry level Mercedes motor it will be popular for tuning simply based on volume.

So what kind of power is it putting out stock? 181 wheel horsepower. This is well behind its competition as the BMW N20 four-cylinder is greatly underrated and showing numbers in the ~230 wheel horsepower range stock. That is a fairly large discrepancy at the wheels considering the difference at the crank between the two is only 32 horsepower (208 horsepower for the Mercedes M270 versus 240 for the BMW N20).

The reality at the wheels is almost 50 horsepower showing somebody is downplaying their crank ratings a bit. Mercedes really should up the output a bit to compete with the Audi 2.0T and BMW N20 as they are trailing quite a bit in output.

Dyno courtesy of HG Motorsports on their Dyno Dynamics which they say reads conservatively compared to a Dynojet. We will have to see Dynojet numbers from the CLA250 to know for sure but the motor definitely will benefit from (and almost needs) some tuning.

Yeah the M270/M271 have always been pretty weak especially compared to the competition. Not even sure why Mercedes makes these so weak.

I remember test driving this car when they hit the dealership. That torque curve feels as pathetic as it looks. the F30 328i blows this pos out of the water.
