    • Fftec Motorsports N54 twin scroll top mount turbo manifold kit, $4950 - Too pricey?

The N54 inline-6 turbo upgrade era is really now blossoming from stock housing options to a variety of aftermarket manifold and turbo solutions. Fftech originally worked on a bottom mount turbo manifold but it seems they have abandoned that setup in favor of a top mount turbo manifold now. This 'kit' includes everything you need to install an aftermarket turbo setup at $4950 but does not include an upgraded turbo making for a pricey manifold option.

Fftec deserves whatever the market is willing to pay and there are not exactly a plethora of top mount off the shelf manifold options in the N54 world at this time. Will it sell? Absolutely.

Why a top mount? Speculation by BimmerBoost members is that the bottom mount manifold required too much modification to the frame of the vehicle to fit. As a reminder, BimmerBoost vendors do have working bottom mount solutions for those not interested in a top mount for whatever reason (sleeper, heat in the engine bay, etc.).

      Picture and pricing info below.

      Included in this Kit:

FFTEC Twin Scroll Top Mount Exhaust Manifold
      FFTEC Top Mount Downpipe
      FFTEC Lower Intercooler Pipe
      FFTEC CNC Coolant Pipe
FFTEC Oil Feed and Drain Lines
      FFTEC Swirl Pot
      FFTEC Boost Control Solenoid
      FFTEC Valve Cover Heat Shield

Hopefully, that's why Terry is here Click here to enlarge The thing is this can't happen for a couple more months. They're too busy and I gotta drop my car off for a week to build the manifold, DP and exhaust.

A $3000 turbo hardware price point would be real appealing. The only thing keeping me away from the M3 is the $13k-15k price of a new SC. Plus the price of a built engine, which will almost certainly be necessary to put out big power on either the N54 or S65.

you are correct. My bad. I was getting the kits for the RS4 I was looking at confused with the M3 kits. Either way, as posted above, you're still in between 10-15k for the sc and were at ~20k more for the initial car purchase. Plus, the M motor really needs to be built to handle high hp and that just sends the cost out of the park.

Does not need to be built to handle high HP unless 600 whp is not high HP in your mind? A turbo kit for an E46 M3 will get you 700 whp on stock internals btw...

You can get a sub $10k SC kit if you want and install it yourself. This is not going to be an install it yourself option except for the true diehards (whom I love).

Just putting things in context and this is something I have been saying for a long time. N54 guys are always saying 'oh I can just get a tune for X amount compared to X amount to get X hp for X car blah blah blah' but once you start spending money on turbo upgrades, manifold upgrades, fuel system upgrades, trans upgrades, built motors, the hp value argument when going past what the stock turbos gives you is dead and buried.

I think it's an interesting point you're trying to make for sure. I'd like to see a cost comparison, item by item, from fueling to FBO + Meth to upgraded turbos and see what the cost of each platform is to make it to, IDK 600HP? 700HP? it would make an interesting comparison. Then the masses could add in the price of the cars and argue from there. $#@!, do it for the e46 M3 too. a 335i vs e46 M3 vs e92 M3 mod comparison for a 700WHP car.

now someone get on that LOL

The only problem would be the inclusion or lack of including questionable mods. For instance, is suspension needed or are non power making supported supporting mods not included?

not included. The N54 is still less expensive then all of them if you ask me.

I guess to eliminate variable at first, I would say no suspension mods. Once we have the three lists of HP adders and supporting mods, then we add the 335i suspension mods and any other mods deemed necessary to make the cars equal in performance.

the real question, if you ask me, is do we include the base retail cost of the vehicle or not. I say we do.

A quick way is add up everything on the Vishnu page shiv says is needed. apparently that makes 734whp...

once the mod lists are complete, then we add purchase price of car.

@Sticky can you put together a mod list with prices for a 700HP e92 M3? Then we need two volunteers to put together mod lists for 700HP 335i MT and e46 M3.

I dislike to use Shiv but as he has the only released product: N54 is $9995 according to Shiv's website . Obviously you can get their cheaper: not using 1k intercoolers, using JB4 + BBFlash, aquamist meth kit, etc. Should be able to get around 8k or less...but as we have to go with what has been PROVEN and not on theory in this thread. I say it takes 10k uninstalled to make 734whp. Am I missing anything?

Anyone done an install of the VAC

Well, while I somewhat agree, VTT has also posted 726HP numbers. I guess the question is which one is cheaper and which one do we want to use? We could use the VTT ST3 with the Cobb tune and aquamist meth kit. that would prob be much more popular on this site LOL. either way is fine as both have 700HP dyno sheets.
