    • 1000+ horsepower Protomotive 996 Turbo beating up on an Underground Racing 1250+ hp Twin Turbo Gallardo Spyder in Mexico, legit?

      Nice to see a daytime run video from "Mexico" for once. In one corner is a 996 Turbo tuned by well known Porsche tuner Protomotive with a claimed 1000+ horsepower. In the other is an LP-560 Spyder with a Twin Turbo setup from famed tuned Underground Racing. Keep in mind with either of these cars the horsepower can be quite up there and there are no specific numbers shown likely for the reason of the owners not wanting the competition to know.


      Yes, this video shows the Porsche coming out on top. Even when the Gallardo gets the jump the Turbo reels it in. With the final race where the UGR Gallardo gets a massive a different angle would have been quite useful but every single run establishes the Porsche as the faster car.

      Some users on the forums are calling BS but they need to keep in mind turbo Gallardos come in all kinds of flavors ranging from 600 wheel to 1800 wheel horsepower depending on what one spends. With a 996 Turbo it is no different it simply depends on how far one modded their car. What is clear is that both can be potent.

        That p-car is running strong. Ive seen it in person. To be honest Im not suprised the outcome of the race but then again, its not the best UGR can come up with.

        Ultimately the 5.0 liter V10 with 8000+ rpm will always win.

        For the realistic, owner a P-car is going to be a significantly better option.... To get the Lambo to the Race 1 package / over 1k WHP, you're looking at $100k on just the motor; that's not trans/drivetrain/suspension/braking upgrades that should be made.

        Protomotive could get the same power out of 996/997 turbo with just upgraded internals (not crazy billet pieces like the ProLine/UGR Lambo motor) on the factory 3.6L displacement. AND then you've got guys like TimNYC & @prodigymb (and Bello) who are doing their HBK garage builds, putting out over 1k WHP and for even a fraction of that.

        There's no debating the value as 996tt's can be picked up for a bag of rocks and a potato today but the Gallardo owner isn't looking for HP for the buck anyway.

        If you want to go further, you can get an old foxbody and run 8's for a fraction of the cost to do so with either of these.

        i know 3 1k+pcars are running 3 ugr lambos in a 3 weeks. having seen them all firsthand, my money is on a 2/3 pcar/lambo victory

        The Foxbody comparison is way off the radar, with either the Porsche or Lambo you're getting a Euro sports car and turning them into turn-key, 1k HP+ titans. If I had the money, as much novelty appeal the Lambo has (V10 wail, turbo boost whistle & curb presence), those things will wear off and you're never going to be able to compare it to the driving feel and reliability of the P-car.

        No, the premise is HP per dollar. With a Gallardo you aren't getting an old VW bug on steroids. This can be flipped several ways.

        Cause it's a dick measuring toy, just with dollar signs instead..... It's def got more "sex" appeal than a Supra, GTR or Turbo P-car, but I think we can all agree that winning > everything else (like looking good)

        It's all a big dick measuring contest. So you lose a race against some uber fast modded car, so what? If I'm in a Lamborghini and pull up to a nice spot at that point you are racing wallets and not cars. And forever and ever Gallardo > 911.

        If you're in a 918 Spyder well then it's reversed. And a 918 Spyder can lose to this 911 Turbo. But does the 918 Spyder owner even care? He won the real race that matters.

        Like you quoted, he wanted to focus on setting his trap speed record. What's even more amazing is that BHT's car is NOT using a standalone EMS, so there's a TON of more power that could be exposed in the car, in addition to a lot of features that a ProEFI or Motec would offer (flat foot shifting, rolling anti-lag, advanced traction control management, significantly better fueling/tuning strategy, etc etc).

        yeah i'm still not getting how it's almost an 11.0 @ 151, it's a solid 2s+ slower than the trap would usually indicate? again, even without a proper launch or anything....?

        i'm not seeing a ton of traction loss either, or massively missed shifts.
