• When you take a sledgehammer to your BMW M6 in protest of mechanical issues with the vehicle, make sure it is not leased

Taking a sledgehammer to a car in public in protest of mechanical issues with the vehicle is definitely one way to get attention. An issue with that approach though is if one were to do that with a car that does not even actually belong to them. Mechanical failures certainly can be extremely frustrating and anyone here who has dealt with trying to get BMW to fix a persistent mechanical problem knows how difficult BMW can be but blatant stupidity is an even bigger issue.

The video below circulated the internet last week as the owner of the M6 decided to use the Frankfurt auto show to make his point publicly. Make his point he did but what was left out of the vast majority of reports was that the M6 is leased. The lease agreement requires that the car come back in good condition. So not only does it appear the man leased a lemon, it looks like he also just bought himself a squashed lemon. BMW's lawyers won't be losing this one especially considering the owner already refused BMW's offer to replace the clutch and flywheel that were causing him problems.

Sometimes one reaches the limit of what can be done to please a customer.

bmw left me with about 3-4 unresolved problems so i can understand why he does this.
Money is not a problem for him so lease or not he will simply pay what is to pay. But its good to see some movement because BMW sometimes really isnt capable of solving problems.
They normally just start swapping out things (on my costs) until they sometims find the problem... not really the way to do it in my opinion.

It's just stupid and a complete waste of money. He could return the car back to BMW and let them deal with the mechanical problems. This now amounts to a large chunk of change out of his pocket. For what?

Unbelievably stupid. Sell it...or give it to someone who would want it. Or just give it back to BMW...this is a waste and incredibly small-minded. Only idiots think that problems are solved by hitting things with hammers.

Sometimes being heard isn't as important as what or how you say it.

you're right violence is never a good solution, but to stand in a situatuation where normal logic is being defied and be well aware that the workshop is more or less indifferent to your opinion about the whole situation, I can understand, well a little bit, that the man resorts to turning primitive.

I can certainly understand making a point out of frustration but I just wouldn't want to cost myself so much money in the process.

I'd yell and scream on the forums.

I don't feel the need to defend BMW. Let them improve their build quality, customer support and customer satisfaction, there's always room for improvement Click here to enlarge)

I think the guy was a little off on the whole thing to say the least. He was upset that the car shifted "harshly". SMG is not the smoothest thing in the world by default, and he should have realized this straight away. This is the problem when people buy a sports car and want a luxury car; they just buy the most expensive one the dealer has and hope for the best.

as i told you bmw is mostly not able to fix certain problems.
And when they come to that point they start swapping (on customer costs!) out part after part.

F.e. for my low power 335d (made only 260 hp crank) they could give me no answer and started swapping parts of the intake, parts of the turbo tubing. And with every swap the price got higher. The last swap costed me approx. 3000 $ and there was no gain. (they misured the performance directly on their own dyno).
I then stopped going to bmw and resolved it finally on my own. At next probably they would have swapped the turbos and we know what that costs.

Next example, my 130i, when driving slow and cornering, made strange sounds in the front (left). It was like someone hammering on iron. About every 5 to 10 seconds. It really sounded broken. No chance to get it fixed by bmw. They swapped lots of parts and after a final bill of again about 3000 $ i stopped there too (sound was still there). And i have more of this examples. When they are not able to solve they start making high bills so that you stop bothering them.

Obviously i would not destroy my car for that, but i for sure understand fully why he does it.
Its about this thread in this forum and in all the other forums, the posts in the online news papers and normal news papers, that make up a bad reputation for bmw. He is doing it for that reason.

I've had to deal with BMW warranty support and its a nightmare. I never thought of taking a sledgehammer to the car though to get a response. That only hurts my pocketbook.

He got a lot per dollar even if its leased. Yelling and screaming on the forums will get you very little real attention. Doing this way he got an extreme amount more coverage, easily over 3M views. Gotta understand some people just don't care about the money when it comes to making a point, especially one so string right outside BMWs door step.

        I strongly disagree.
