The S65 V8 they are switching to will run an OEM intake manifold with Dinan trumpets. The BMW North America Motorsports Manager Gordon McDonnell stated the following, “We are excited to welcome Starworks Motorsport back to the BMW Power family. Our discussions with Peter Baron and Alex Popow over the last weeks were extremely positive allowing us to make this partnership happen quickly. Starworks is having an excellent season to-date and I’m positive that we can help them continue. Dinan Motorsports played an enormous role in getting the engines built in time for Indianapolis and I want to thank Steve and his team for making this happen in such a short amount of time.”
Starworks Motorporsports won their first race with BMW power last Friday at the Brickyard Grand Prix which was the S65 V8's race debut. Winning the very first race bodes well for the S65 V8 in the Rolex Series.
There are now six BMW powered Daytona Prototypes racing in the Rolex Series. Starworks, Ganassi, and Sahlen all run BMW motors. One of the Starworks and Stahlen cars will run the S62 V8 and one will run the S65 V8. It will be interesting to see how the two stack up.
