Some interesting sibling rivalry here between two cars based on the same C197 SLS AMG platform but that go about their performance in very different ways. The SLS AMG Black Series takes everything we love about the standard SLS AMG and makes it better by dropping roughly 200 pounds off the car and upping horsepower by 60 for a total of 631 horses. It's blistering fast with 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and the 1/4 mile in firstname.lastname@example.org.
The all electric SLS AMG Electric drive actually is more powerful than the SLS Black Series by just over 100 horses at 740 horsepower. It also costs over $500,000 so almost twice the price. It also handles pretty well becoming the first electric car to lap the Nurburgring in under 8 minutes. Downside? Weight and range. The battery weighs 1200 pounds and it is a heavier car than the Black Series. So, more weight, but more power, and instant electric torque. It also sends power to all four wheels. Which of the two is faster in a drag race? The lighter gasoline powered SLS or the heavier electric powered SLS? What about around the track?
