  • 2014 Beetle GSR starts at $30,790 for 6-speed manual and $31,890 for DSG

Here is the sportiest Beetle money can buy from Volkswagen, the 2014 Beetle GSR which was announced in a press release earlier this year. It is priced at $30,790 for the 6-speed manual and $31,890 for the dual clutch gearbox DSG. That money gets you a 10 horsepower bump to 210 horses from 200 with the 2.0T motor which is not exclusive to this model. It also gets you R-Line body pieces which looks sporty and the yellow/black paint theme you see in the photos below.

Is it worth it for 19 inch wheels, a minor hp bump, and cosmetics? With only 3500 models being produced it will be somewhat rare (rare in the sense of more rare than your standard Beetle) but Beetle Turbo starts at $24,370 and the R-Line version at $30,135. Only diehard Beetle fans likely will be interested. The model we really want to see is the Beetle R but don't hold your breath.

I'm in love with that interior and those headlights.

This car is about $2k less than a Golf R. Not that those buyers would ever cross-shop, but since they are basically the same platform, I have a hard time seeing anyone truly into performance getting this bug instead of the Golf.

      I'd have to agree.

Why they don't do a Beetle R though is maddening.
