    • IND-Distribution shows off the difference in engine notes between the E60 M5 S85 V10 and F10 M5 S63TU V8 plus the sound quality of the Eisenmann Race Exhaust

Very well done sound quality comparison and high quality video from IND-Distribution demonstrating the difference between two M motors and really two different eras. One represents the classic M high revving naturally aspirated approach that being the S85 5.0 liter V10 in the E60 M5. The other is the brand new "Efficient Dynamics" era S63TU Twin Turbo direct injected 4.4 liter V8 in the brand new F10 M5. Both are equipped with Eisenmann exhaust systems. So which sounds better?

It is no contest. The S85 V10 is arguably the best sounding production M motor of all time with simply an exotic engine note that is difficult to equate to anything that is not expensive and Italian. This is the only production V10 for street car use ever produced by M and they the bar very high. Literally, the only other place you could get something on this level would be in a much more expensive exotic from Italy. We will never see (or hear) something this good in a new M car ever again. The Eisenmann Race exhaust compliments and accentuates the engine note perfectly.

Then there is new S63TU V8 alongside the E60 M5. The engine note has been described as weak and BMW even pipes in synthetic noise due to this. Is there anything else that needs to be said really? It will never sound as good as the S85 V10 at full song. Period. An aftermarket exhaust like the Eisenmann Race you hear here definitely will help it sound more like an M should but this comparison is no contest.

No contest. the old e60 is in a league of its own. The new M5 sounds so weak, specially out of the box.

The difference between the two isn't as big as it should be.

Well considering it's almost 100 whp it should be 10 miles per hour in trap speed if not more considering the the dual clutch in the F10 but it isn't. The S85 and the E60 are more efficient per horse it seems.

Plus, you can get the S85 all motor with less WHP to match the F10 M5 and actually exceed it. That should say plenty.

The f10 is just too heavy( not to say the e60 is light), the added weight really holds the f10 back. Also it sounds like $#@! even with its exhaust pumped through the speakers. Ill take a full bolt on e60 with an evolve tune over tr f10 any day.

More S85 porn! M6 tho.. I will make a full review here on Bimmerboost when I get my RPI exhaust, pics, vids, install etc.

To add to the convo, before I bought my E60 M5, coming from my FBO modded 335i's for 6 years, I went for a test drive in my cousins F10 M5 extensively. I always felt the N54 was soft in its power delivery and only at low RPM tq was there that rush of O $#@!, this is pulling feeling. Its mid range and top end was dull and artificial, I felt the same way when I drove the F10 M5. Its heavy, turning transitions are horrible, you can feel the weight and the massiveness of the car, and the engine has that artificial speed feel, not much sensation, like the N54 but more power/speed.
The S85, you have that change in power in the mid range and that extra hard top rev pull which feels amazing! Then the SMG in full S6 mode gets you that bang, there is honestly no feeling like it! The E60 feels raw in its power and driving experience. F10 does get a lot better MPG, is a gorgeous car, has loads of TQ, easier to drive and smoother then the E60. Its fast as hell in speed, but getting to that speed will never be as involved and exciting as the E60 M5.

Here is a video that was taken during my run with my cousins F10 M5 back in the winter:

On top of being the first engine that M hasn't built completely, it sounds horrible compared to the S85, and sounds exactly like a 550i or 650i. It isn't fun to see 550i owners walk around talking about how they basically have the same engine as is in the M5, and no1 has time to sit there and explain to the public the difference.
