• Matt Farah from DRIVE takes a Weistec 850+ horsepower turbo upgraded W212 E63 AMG for a spin - Video

      Video here from Drive whose Matt Farah stopped by Weistec and was able to try out their M157 turbo upgrade package on a W212 E63 AMG. Most of you should already be familiar with the Weistec M157 turbo upgrade package which has shown a very healthy 727 horsepower at the wheels. So Matt got in Weistec's own E63 with their turbo upgrade package and took it out on the streets. What did he think of it?



      Well, he starts off by criticizing Orange County and saying Los Angeles is the place to drive namely Malibu. As someone who lived in Malibu for several years, I have to say Matt is VERY wrong. First of all, you don't only need to drive on toll roads (pro tip Matt, you go when the light turns green) as he claims as the roads in Orange County are far more open than those in LA. Ever hear of PCH? Newport Beach? Laguna? Anaheim Hills? Irvine? Santiago Canyon Road? I manage to find plenty of twisty and fairly empty roads in Orange County without the Police all over them like the canyons in Malibu which also come to a stand still fairly often due to traffic or a rock that tumbled down closing a lane. This video is about a car and not where to drive but don't start a video off about a tuner based in Orange County who is nice enough to let you try out their package by insulting Orange County. Professional review? Really? Obviously this guy doesn't know much about Orange County which he later reveals as he is not from the area.

      Ok, let's talk about the car which is what really matters. Again, this starts with complaints. The air conditioning stopped working. Yes, things happen, and yes, it's hot in Southern California and you want AC. The issue as Weistec explained to me was that the steering wheel control module went out. This can happen to a stock car and has nothing to do with the turbo upgrade or anything Weistec modified. Things happen and it is something that is fixed by replacing the module and resetting the codes. Matt did not have AC or manual shift mode during the review.

      Not a big deal and when he gets on it he quickly forgets about the inconvenience as he should. The power makes him giddy, again, as it should. Good, now we're enjoying ourselves. His butt dyno states it is making every bit of the advertised power.

      Steve at Weistec then makes a cameo to go over all the components in the turbo upgrade. It's a completely bolt on upgrade system which is nice and gives it an OEM feel. A quick overview is made of the components and the other things Weistec does such as all their work at the forefront of the M156 AMG scene.

      Steve goes on to further say the car puts down 715 wheel horsepower on 91 octane pump gas which is impressive considering California pump fuel quality is not. There's more in it on race gas of course. There are some great shots of the car doing burnouts and WOT throttle pulls.

      My feelings on the review are mixed. Obviously the car is impressive as is the Weistec upgrade package. Matt's comments seem to come from someone not very educated in the M157 tuning scene or what Weistec has accomplished however. Look, yes, the AC and steering wheel transmission controls went out boo hoo. How in the world does that mean the Renntech tuned car worked better? It's not tuning related as he later finally states. Additionally, the Renntech car was their bolt on car not their M157 turbo upgrade car so hardly apples to apples anyway. I feel like a mountain was made out of a molehill.

      Overall, the car is impressive as is the Weistec turbo upgrade package. This review? It focuses on the wrong things and starts off on the wrong foot. It doesn't do it justice.

        My favorite comment was Weistec's that you can't get 500 wheel out of a 7 liter GM motor naturally aspirated, lol. That's doable on a mild cam/headers setup. I haven't kept up with LSx stuff like I once did, but I know that years ago they were doing 600 rwhp with a proper heads/cam setup you could still daily drive.

        Regardless, video was decent.

        I asked about this. Turns out they would cut and ask questions and then cut to different responses/things. Like when he's talking about the M156 and they are panning to the M157 parts. Just seems it wasn't edited well.

        AMS stated their package has been detuned in testing like at the strip and so forth.
