    • HPF Stage 2 Turbo S54 versus Active Autowerke supercharged S65 - E46 M3 versus E92 M3 - Torque versus horsepower

      Interesting race here showing the difference between two forced induction options offering different power curves. The Horsepower Freaks (RIP) Stage 2 Turbo E46 M3 in the video is definitely making more torque than the Active Autowerke Gen II Level III supercharged E92 M3. But, the E92 M3 is making its torque peak toward redline and having extra revs over the S54 inline-6 in the E46 M3 definitely shows its strength here as the supercharged E92 M3 is able to beat the turbocharged E46 M3.

      Both cars have meth injection and both are on the stock engine internals. The E46 M3 is slightly lighter but the E92 M3 has the quicker shifting transmission. The supercharged car wins this round no doubt causing a lot of turbo E46 M3 owners proclaiming superiority due to peak torque figures to scratch their heads. It's where you make the horsepower that counts in a roll on race and combine a strong top end with a quick shifting dual clutch and you have the result you see here.

      It will be interesting to see what happens when built motor E92 M3 S65 V8's go up against built motor E46 M3 S54 inline-6's. BimmerBoost will be sure to make that comparison happen.

        Looks like AA has changed the "titling" on their website. Now it's just Gen 2, Stages 1-3 (6-9 psi), all with the Rotrex C38.

        Ya with AA changing hardware throughout the cycle as they do different names become necessary. Their E46 M3 setups underwent a lot of revisions as well. I don't even know what "Gen" they are up to now.

        Any dyno numbers? That E92 should be around 650whp and a stage 2 hpf with meth is low 600whp. So I'd say the E92 had the advantage on the number.

        i would love to mess with someone near houston in my turbo E36- since i still haven't found anyone that has given it a good run.

        Active is listing the Level 3 at 700 BHP/480 Ft Lbs while running 9 psi on the Rotrex C38, but VCM stated they just nearly hit 600 WHP with the same setup... That probably is with their 100% catless X-Pipe, Rear Section & 93 octane/98 RON. And while the E92 has more power and a more favorable trans (DCT) keeping the engine in the "happy" zone, the E46 is a lighter car and the powerband is less "peaky"/high RPM with the turbo S54.

        IIRC, this same E92 is listed elsewhere with 750bhp. So that would put it somewhere slightly lower than 650whp, maybe 640whp. Regardless, still higher than the stage 2 hpf.

        But even still, without any dyno numbers from both cars, we can all just guess at the whp numbers.

        Crank listings mean nothing it's just under 600 whp.

        Not interesting at all. lol You're trying to make a claim off of a crappy video where we don't even know what the exact number are on these cars. I've personally witness supercharged e9x m3s vs hpf m3s. This video means nothing. Maybe at a different angle and more runs, we might actually be able to conclude something.

        It's not a crappy video I think it could use more than one camera angle though. We know what the numbers are it's obvious where you're going as you guessed way, way above what the setup puts out. Just search for dyno numbers here for the setup if you need to see it. The HPF setup will actually have more potential leeway in power than Active SC.

        You've personally witnessed SC E9X M3's versus HPF M3's and no video eh? Convenient.

        Either way, we'll see more soon enough. E46 M3 owners aren't going to like those results either.
