    • Spyphotos of the Mercedes AMG Porsche 911 Rival - 2015 C190 SLC / SLR with M177 4.0 liter V8

It's definitely coming and here is the proof. Mercedes-Benz AMG will have a sports car slotted under the SLS designed to compete with the Porsche 911. Not an easy task but if the specifications are correct this is going to be a very serious car. As reported in February of this year the SLC AMG (or possibly named SLR, Mercedes has not made its mind up) will sport a 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 (M177) which will also go into the next generation W205 C63 AMG.

Expect two trim levels for the twin turbo V8 one with 485 horsepower aimed at the Carrera S and then an SLC S trim model with 585 horsepower set to match up against the 991 Turbo. A dual clutch transmission will be standard as in the SLS AMG.

Pricing will start in the $120k range and move up from there depending on trim and options. The platform is known as C190 internally.

If the projected 3400 pound weight is met Mercedes will have a hit on their hands. Great stuff Mercedes-Benz and AMG! Don't forget a Black Series variant to take on the GT2 either!

        Nice coupe.
I would take this over the rear-engine 911.

But, I would choose the GTR over both if the projected MSRP is correct.

Dude you are all over the map. Now you like the 4.0L motor ? You sure it's not too "puny" for you ? 585hp OEM tune for the S trim model....just as I said, as much as the M157 and a lighter powerplant - upgraded turbos and it's a 650 hp screamer.
But you will take the GT-R with less displacement ? Click here to enlarge You make no sense whatsoever.

        Did I say I would take the GTR over a 5.5L C63 4matic ?
        No, I did not.

I posted that I would take the 3.8TT GTR over the 4.0TT AMG.
The GTR's proven track record, aftermarket support, and the lower MSRP is worth the GTR giving up .2L to the AMG.

The only thing that is "all over the place" is your stalking of me.

        Agreed.
I have wanted a 911 Turbo since they were released with AWD.
But, the rear engine always freaked me out.
This front-engine 911 fighter from AMG will be a great alternative to the stale Porsche who insists on keeping the engine located in the wrong place.

Sorry, I didn't realize there was a RIGHT place to mount a motor. But I guess Porsche has no clue what they are doing with the 911 being one of the most iconic sports cars of all time with countless racing titles over decades and a motorsports pedigree second to none. Yeah, that's it....they don't have a clue what they are doing over at Porsche LOL. Or, maybe you are just afraid of a little snap oversteer.

Yes. Porsche IS clueless, just like you.

Any educated car guy knows that the 911 remains rear engine due to the pacification of the "purists" (pigheaded luddites) and due to efforts to maximize profits.

If Porsche was ran by PERFORMANCE focused decision makers, the Cayman would have replaced the 911 because it is the superior chassis.

Porsche KNOWS THAT REAR ENGINE IS A POOR DESIGN and they continue to move the 911's engine closer to the center of the chassis instead of simply placing the motor in it's optimal location.

You want to try to argue the above which is widely accepted by all educated auto enthusiasts?
        OK, simply answer me this:

If you could order a Cayman with the drivetrains from the 911 Turbo, GT2, or GT3, would there be any reason to purchase the 911 over the Cayman?

If so, what would it be?

And, don't say the rear seats, because NO ONE is fitting in those back seats.
        NO ONE.

        Friendly advice:
Just pretend you never read this post and don't respond because every time you do TRY to argue with me, you make it clear to anyone reading that you are completely clueless.

What you say about the Cayman surpassing it is true but that doesn't mean the rear engine is pointless. The 911 has some natural benefits like later braking and being able to get on the power sooner with the weight over the rear wheels.

Porsche has proven the layout works and works well. They have also moved the engine forward a bit. It isn't mid-engined but Porsche does well with the 911 this can't be denied.

We could round and round this subject for hours.

Instead of doing that, I will repost the rhetorical question that should end this debate before it even begins:

If you could order a new Cayman/Boxster with the drivetrain from the 911, why would anyone buy the 911?
Would you buy the 911 or the Cayman if both offered the identical drivetrains and MSRP?

You really are retarded you know that ? Look at almost EVERY sports car racing series and they ALL have 911's which are beating mid engined cars. Wonder why that is ? If the 911 design is so poor, then how do they manage to destroy mid engined 458's ? Why is it that some of the best racing teams spend their money on Porsches when they could buy any other marque ? Gee I wonder...
But in your delusional manner you seem to want to make up cars that don't exist....like a Cayman with the drivetrain from a GT2 LOL. Or the new C63 with an M157....Since you mention "pretend" above...why don't you take your own advice and quit posting about "pretend" cars that don't exist and and focus on reality.

Meanwhile, here's the newest video of the 991 GT3. The guy driving has driven just about every sports car made yet he proclaims this new 911 is the best sports car he has ever driven. I guess he is clueless too ???

And while I will not argue that a mid engined car is better balanced than a rear engined car - that only goes to show you how good Porsche has made and continues to make the 911. But like I said before, you just seem afraid of a little snap oversteer LOL.

Did you see what car placed first and second at Le Mans in LMGTE class ? Oh yeah, Porsche 911 RSR's. They beat the front engined Aston, front engined Corvette and the mid engined 458. Wow, wonder how that happened ??

"In the LMGTE Pro group, Porsche Team Manthey claimed victory on the Le Mans debut of the new 991-generation race car with drivers Marc Lieb, Richard Lietz, and Romain Dumas, while the LMGTE Am class increased Porsche's total class victories at Le Mans to 100 with the IMSA Performance entry of Jean-Karl Vernay, Raymond Narac, and Christophe Bourret leading the class"

Yeah, those Porsches suck it's a miracle they've had 100 wins at Le Mans LOL.

        Get a clue man.

        Nostalgia.

But also Porsche has moved the rear engine forward. It isn't pointless it does have certain advantages.

        Plus and minus...

I posted an intelligent, rhetorical question that pretty much ends this conversation.

I didn't respond to the worthless and antagonistic posts.
But, I still want to see the pic of the aftermath if this kid takes this $hit talking from behind the protection of his computer and into the real world.

You're not wrong you're just an idiot.

Of course a Cayman with the 911 drivetrain would be awesome. But it DOES NOT EXIST. You live in fantasy land. You keep bringing up hypotheticals that have no bearing in reality. Just like you keep posting about the new C63 getting an M157 - it's not happening.

So while you postulate and dream up scenarios that don't exist and will not happen, I'll be living in the real world where the 911 is THE choice for the top racing teams around the world and has won more racing titles than any other manufacturer.
