• And the BMW N54 horsepower record officially stands at 725 wheel horsepower - E92 335i with Vargas VTX-R 63 Stage 3 turbo upgrade, Cobb Flash, and PTF Pro Tune

Well, it seems the back and forth of N54 tuning horsepower records is over... for now. Earlier this month Vargas Turbo Tech and Pro Tuning Freaks (with a Cobb flash) set the N54 hosrepower record at 693 wheel horsepower. That basically obliterated what anyone else had hit on this platform. A competing tuner with a single turbo (the Vargas VTX63 upgrade consists of twin turbos) N54 upgrade kit out of nowhere pulled out suspect numbers that eeked out a few more wheel horsepower.

This became an ego pissing match of sorts but Vargas and Pro Tuning Freaks went back to the dyno to make some adjustments and managed to surprisingly quickly and easily take the horsepower record right back (and where it rightfully belongs due to the breakthrough being thanks to the Vargas work with the High Pressure Fuel Pump) with a 725 wheel horsepower pull.

A video is included below along with two graphs. The E92 335i is equipped with a Pro Tuning Freaks pro tuning using the Cobb flash system, 109 octane race gas, meth injection, and of course the Vargas Turbo Technologies VTX-R 63 (GTX2863R) twin turbo upgrade and HPFP upgrade.

Congratulations to Vargas, PTF, and Cobb for pushing the platform into new territory.

My trans can handle the power... the problem was discs used up early on and little knowledge about how to program the trans.

I would have been better off with a stock trans than ever having SSP touch anything.

Agreed. But either way it's been a learning experience for many parties. He's still going to need to find someone to build it. Isn't the 335i DCT weaker than the M3 DCT?

if the 335is DCT is like the m3 DCT and the VW DSG you really don't need someone to build it, you just need someone to tune it. IIRC Sticky found out (the hard way unfortunately) that the m3 DCT is pretty stout, just needed the right TCU tuning to handle power.

I agree with this, but I think better clutch packs WHILE tuned properly would be better in the end when done properly..

Hopefully the 'open source' flashing project will net something in regards to TCU programming.

Depends, if they're specifically looking into the TCM programming then maybe. BUT it sounds like they're strictly looking at the engine performance related coding (Timing, Boost, AFR, etc etc)

He mentioned once the DME is working, he may take a look at the TCU

Now that we have a trans map to flash and a way to flash it then it's only a matter of time before someone with the interest figures out how to edit it for higher shift points, etc.

Good to know, something that a LOT more people can benefit from

i guess it really depends, i can't speak from the BMW side, but i do know that people running higher powered VWs with DSG tend to stick to OEM clutch packs as they have actually held up better than after market ones (including SSP)

I was not aware of this, good info

The 335 DCT is the same thing with different programming.

Yep, unfortunately the hard way. Now that idiot from SSP is threatening me to take down what I wrote. L O L.

Tony and Dzenno: Congrats on this achievement! This is what I would call a true milestone for the N54 platform!

If you are to make a true, real life estimate, how much power should this kit put down on just 93 octane WITHOUT meth?

My guess is about 680 whp, but I am not an expert.

I'm really interested to see the spool #'s and characteristics with the smaller manifold primaries. If it can hit 20psi @ 4000rpm or earlier, it should be a BEAST.

We actually figured out why it wasn't spooling quicker, but are still working on a fix. We can fool the car into quick spool mode with certain criteria are met but the DME wants to fight us on it. Here is an AEM boost log, but you need AEMdata software to open it. We are 19.7 psi or basically 20 psi at 3863, and 20.7 psi, or 21 at 4000 and 27 psi at 4554...Click here to enlarge With the new smaller primaries expect it to be even better than that...Click here to enlarge Dont mind the first run on there, forgot DTC was on, or peak boost as you can see I lift at 6 grand, just checking the spool

Cool. I have such a different usage for my car than most 335i owners that I value something a little different. Click here to enlarge That boost looks good, that should be pretty responsive, especially on "street boost" 18-20psi. Lookin good Tony, keep the good stuff coming.
