    • And the BMW N54 horsepower record officially stands at 725 wheel horsepower - E92 335i with Vargas VTX-R 63 Stage 3 turbo upgrade, Cobb Flash, and PTF Pro Tune

Well, it seems the back and forth of N54 tuning horsepower records is over... for now. Earlier this month Vargas Turbo Tech and Pro Tuning Freaks (with a Cobb flash) set the N54 hosrepower record at 693 wheel horsepower. That basically obliterated what anyone else had hit on this platform. A competing tuner with a single turbo (the Vargas VTX63 upgrade consists of twin turbos) N54 upgrade kit out of nowhere pulled out suspect numbers that eeked out a few more wheel horsepower.

This became an ego pissing match of sorts but Vargas and Pro Tuning Freaks went back to the dyno to make some adjustments and managed to surprisingly quickly and easily take the horsepower record right back (and where it rightfully belongs due to the breakthrough being thanks to the Vargas work with the High Pressure Fuel Pump) with a 725 wheel horsepower pull.

A video is included below along with two graphs. The E92 335i is equipped with a Pro Tuning Freaks pro tuning using the Cobb flash system, 109 octane race gas, meth injection, and of course the Vargas Turbo Technologies VTX-R 63 (GTX2863R) twin turbo upgrade and HPFP upgrade.

Congratulations to Vargas, PTF, and Cobb for pushing the platform into new territory.

700whp and 3500lbs better be a lot faster than 132mph Click here to enlarge 500whp in a 3100lb Z06 is enough to do that.

I think dzenno is sandbagging a little which is cool. Better to under promise and over deliver!

I agree. I remember someone claiming they just might pass up the 10 sec 1/4 mile time and go straight into the 9 sec bracket with their ST kit. Don't remember it happening though.

I also remember someone installing a cage in their car and then never taking it back to the track...

The difference between your "700whp" and shiv's ~640-650whp is that he had an average HP of like mid 500's as it only crossed 600 right at redline. You have near peak power for 1500rpms, which is plenty.

Now, his new turbo should do much better as well.

2013 is going to be a good year.

It just keeps getting better every year but I think this year is pretty special

DZ, are you guys raising boost toward redline at all? That HP stays above 700 all the way to the limiter. If you aren't tapering boost upward, that is really impressive considering there hasn't been any headwork done (and you're reving it over 7k).

Boost comes down a touch actually towards redline Click here to enlarge about 1-1.5psi taper down

35psi on these will most likely see somewhere around 800whp..

Wow, it's hard to believe how well the N54 flows; especially considering the relatively small exhaust ports. Being able to bring boost down a bit toward redline while still holding good power all the way to the limiter shows that this hardware and tuning combo performs well while keeping a margin of safety.

Not sure if one was posted or not, but I didn't read through every page. I'm curious to see what it would look like.

Random question. What muffler set does this car have?

IIRC he's running the HKS. So not the best flowing, but I'm not sure if its a restriction or not.

It's also easier to launch a Z06 + isn't dependent on boost (500 WHP on an LS7 can be done with standard bolt-ons). Z06 can also do 60+ in 1st gear so you're shifting only ~3 times while you'll have to shift 4 times in 335, regardless of the 6AT or 6MT 's Final Drive.

Full HKS Legamax, which has 65mm piping (~2.5") so there's a power restriction, need to go full 3" with some resonators (HPF & VRSF systems are both 3.5", Magnaflow, aFe + ETS are all 2.5" also, not sure about the Active kit @Andrew@activeautowerke).

All of which you just said is regarding ET, it doesn't affect trap speed all that much (2-3mph or so); other posts have explained why Shiv's car performed so poorly (it wasn't because of the launch). There were RB cars running high 120s with MUCH less power than 630whp. I'd be surprised seeing lots of LS7s make 500whp with standard bolt-ons. They make 440whp stock, so it's a lot to gain with only so many mods (a cam is not boltons).

A single 3" would be restrictive on this car. The VRSF is a 3.5" single, HPF is similar. Need something closer to 4" single for this much power TBH. The head flows so poorly that it needs all the help it can get.

Dual 3" or single 4" would work fine.

Not sure where u got that. HKS is one of if not the best qualitt N54 exhaust on the market. Best piping, resonators mufflers. Definitely not restrictive at all.

A single 3.5" flows less than dual 2.5"

With just an intake and a tune, you can gain 50rwhp on a LS7.
