    • Bone stock Mercedes-Benz C207 E550 Twin Turbo M278 Coupe runs a 12.4@115 1/4 mile at the MIR drag strip

Very impressive results here from a completely stock E550 coupe. The M278 4.6 liter twin turbo V8 is looking more and more impressive powering this particular vehicle belonging to BenzBoost member nawlinstornado to a 12.428@115.13. That elapased time was achieved with the factory runflat Continental tires and no limited slip differential. The 1.961 60 foot can be improved tremendously with some real drag rubber meaning low 12's are realistically in this cars future stock.

Now, this was done at MIR (Maryland International Raceway) which is a fast track especially when the density altitude drops. It was -621 feet at the time of this run which is definitely a contributing factor to the great results. Regardless, these cars dyno in the 390 wheel horsepower range stock making them very potent and underrated. Now just imagine if Mercedes and AMG make an E63 AMG coupe with the M157 V8.

Congratulations to @nawlinstornado for the awesome results, timeslip below.

After my conversation with Kleemann, I don't have any concern with the transmission or my soon-to-be-installed LSD. Looks like I'm more likely to break a half-shaft than anything. But in the end, I'd rather just run street tires. It's always fun to know that I didn't have to do anything special for track times.

When was this released and where can I get the details?

True, and based on Corey's (Kleemann) thoughts, I have no reason to believe I couldn't break into the 11.9s with an LSD and drag radials. I don't know, maybe.....

Apparently, Bird's UK caught onto my failed attempt to get some made by Quaife and bought a MB factory diff for them to match. See the thread here:

Still seems like nothing official released?

Agreed. But since the diff is in development at Quaife, with expected release date in July, I'm assuming a formal *official* press release won't be available until then. Bird's postings are consistent with my phone calls to Quaife's engineers. I have no reason to doubt them, particularly since they are Quaife's largest distributor.

I'm not doubting them. When we have something official let me know and I'll put an article up. Just keep me updated.

I've already reserved my place in the queue. As soon as they notify me it's ready to ship, I'll update the thread.

To add to the Quaife parade: I started this process Dec 2011 when the MBZ dealer tried to install the 2011 E coupe Quaife in my showroom-new 2012: it didn't fit much to the dealer's surprise. At that time they or Quaife didn't know MBZ had introduced a new pumpkin for the M278 E coupe/convertible. I contacted Quaife and they put me in contact with Bird; he offered to help design and build a unit if I sent in the pumpkin from my new 2012.

I guess they finally saw enough interest to get involved. Or they found out it fits other X550's with the M278 and saw a larger market. Either way, I'm excited that it's getting made. And that I didn't have to buy 10 units!

        +1
or send in a pumpkin from my vehicle.

Really impressive numbers! Hopefully a serious drop by way of coilovers is in this cars future!

I was surprised, too. I went to the track expecting sub-13s, but never considered a sub-12.5.

As to the drop, I'm still debating. This is my daily driver and my only car. I'm moving next month, though, and buying an SUV to tow my track-only R6. Once I'm settled in, I may take the plunge but any drop will be relatively conservative. DC roads can be rather unforgiving.
