    • Next generation B9 Audi A5/RS5 to lose 100 kg (220 pounds), drop V8 for turbo V6, and offer an optional lightweight ultra package

Audi seems to be taking this lightweight thing very seriously. The new A3 is lighter than the previous generation model by 154 pounds. Audi is not content to stop there and seems to be planning to lighten all of their models. Rumor has it the next generation A5 will be 220 pounds lighter than it is now. That is a good thing as the current Audi RS5 coupe weighs in at a hefty 4,039 pounds. Dropping 220 pounds would put it at 3819 which is reasonable for an all wheel drive luxury coupe in this day and age.

If that isn't enough of a drop though Audi is also said to be set to offer an optional ultra lightweight package to drop the weight even further. Now that is something AudiBoost can get behind. For those who want a more hardcore and lighter car an optional package to satisfy the performance oriented enthusiast is a great idea.

Also, do not expect a V8 for any new RS5 model. It seems the 3.0 TFSI in the S5 will be getting two turbos and boosted to around 475 horsepower for the RS model. Certainly not a bad idea and not the first time this has been brought up.

Let's just hope all this information is true as it comes from CAR who likes to hype things up and there is no confirmation or source so we all just have to take their word for it.

That hood scoop added by the photoshop boys at CAR looks ridiculous.

On a positive note, the specs for the new car look great, especially the reduced weight and ultra light package. Maybe moves like this will get BMW to wake up and start shedding some weight from their models too.

If this is true, it'd be awesome.

I live in Jo'burg, which is around 1800m above sea level. I drove the RS5 on Friday, and up here, it's a real disappointment, forced induction is definitely the way forward!

Unfortunately elevation is killer for NA motors.
