    • More Tesla propaganda: 2012 Tesla Model S versus 2012 W212 E63 AMG with M157 bi-turbo non-Performance Package drag race - Tesla wins?

This Tesla performance hype really needs to be put to an end and additionally needs to stop being misleading. Yes, the Tesla Model S performs fairly well for its weight due to the instant torque provided by the electric motor. But a bunch of videos are going up showing the Tesla Model S beating Vipers and now twin turbo V8 AMG sedans. It simply is not realistic to think the Tesla Model S electric sedan is going to perform like a modern twin turbo V8 based sedan.

The 2012 W212 E63 AMG in this video does not have the Performance Package option that adds more power and torque. Which is fine, because it still has more than enough power to beat the Tesla in a drag race. The Model S recently set a world record with a 1/4 mile run of 12.3@110 miles per hour. That really isn't all that fast.

The E63 AMG stock traps much higher than this, BenzBoost having seen a stock E63 run 12.0@116 in hot Florida weather. The Tesla Model S isn't faster, it isn't going to win, and this propaganda regarding its performance needs to stop.

The drag race in the video below is from 0-110 (coincidentally where the Tesla tops out in the 1/4 mile) and the E63 doesn't even brake boost just rolls into the throttle which of course favors a car that has no turbo lag and instant torque. This race clearly designed to favor the Tesla Model S as it stops once the E63 starts rapidly reeling it in.

The same nonsense was seen on BimmerBoost with a Tesla Model S shown to supposedly be quicker in a drag race than the new F10 M5. It's BS, misleading, and quite simply not accurate. Even an average driver in an E63 or M5 will win this drag race and from a roll it is no contest. Enough with the propaganda already.

I would recommend that you check out car and driver. They have a 5-60mph test that is interesting. This eliminates the advantage of launch control from the equation, similar to normal stoplight to stoplight b.s.
Obviously the 1/4 mile is the real test of straight line speed but for city driving the Tesla Model S Performance is plenty quick

        5-60mph
        Model s: 4.5 sec.
        2013 BMW m5 4.6 sec
        2012 e63 wagon w/ performance pack 4.5 sec
        2013 panamera gts 4.6 sec
        2012 panamera turbo s 3.7 sec
        2013 gt500 4 sec
        Audi s6 4.9 sec
        2012 gtr 3.7 sec

5-60 is more a test of flexibility. The turbo motors will be penalized somewhat here compared to an electric. In a real drag race you will bring the RPM up or at the very least brake boost something like an E63. Not doing so is handicapping it. Who launches in a drag race without any throttle applied while staging?

The electric motor benefits from having immediate TQ from a launch or off-throttle roll race & a transmission that does not have to switch gears, while the turbo motor needs to build boost before it achieves full power & can suffer from transmission delays (slow AT/MT shifts, missing gears in an MT).

This piece of propaganda is no where as bad as the Viper losing to the Tesla S. Good for a laugh, the mall near my house has a lot of high end, classy retail stores and a Tesla Dealer.

Yes, that one is definitely worse.

These videos are like saying you can beat a Ferrari F430 in a drag race with a civic because the F430 guy is in 3rd gear and not ready to race.

Me Click here to enlarge. I only did so because I didn't want to overpower my runflat tires as I completely roast them if I brake boost. Still went 12.0@118mph with a 2.072 60ft while applying throttle off idle.

Well this is a traction issue but assuming you had traction you would want to build some boost at the line.

The car is fast, deceptively so... Get caught sleeping and as @Blaizon would say. A chase is a race, cause you'll be chasing it down. They merely show the car is not slow, its not proganda or misleading in any shape or form. Here's our car and its got some balls. Ask the Viper driver would slept off the line or the AMG driver who got left at the light. It is what it is...

It is misleading, especially versus the M5.

It's misleading to call it a drag race when the length is specifically set to favor the Tesla and the car its racing doesn't even launch.

Its just not that deep and most sensible enthusiasts know that. I'll agree to disagree and move on

The average person won't know. Read the youtube comments. Hence why pointing all this out is necessary.

I don't understand. Either you move on you don't. If you don't intend to don't say you intend to. Or you could actually do what you say you are going to do, crazy.
