    • Audi releases acceleartion figures for the new facelifted R8 with dual clutch and manual transmission for the V8 and V10

      As reported a few months ago the Audi R8 received a facelift for 2013 including styling changes as well as a new dual clutch transmission to replace the sequential manual gearbox on both the V8 and V10 models. One grip on the R8 is that for the money it was not quite as fast as it should be the dual clutch improves its performance a bit. Audi estimates 0-60 on the V8 at 4.3 seconds (4.6 for the manual) and 3.6 seconds for the V10 (3.9 for the manual).


      Compare these dual clutch figures to the old S-Tronic sequential manual figures of 4.5 seconds for the V8 and 3.8 for the V10. Audi states the dual clutch improved acceleration to 60 by 2/10's of a second which is definitely significant. A manual is still offered and roughly 30% of R8's are ordered with the manual.

      These are Audi estimated figures so we will all have to wait and see what independent testers get but it is likely that they will exceed the normally conservative Audi numbers. Horsepower output remains unchanged.

        why do they still sell the v8? it truly is a subpar sports car for the price...

        Because it's cheaper than the V10 and aimed at the Carrera whereas the V10 is aimed at the turbo.

        The V8 really isn't that bad, the car is about more than just straightline performance. And you can always add turbos... early Gallardo's were considered weak too.

        Dude... Audi and Porsche are te exact same company... i dont believe they would be selling cross competing products... The V8 sucks, they realized it and offered a V10 which is nasty.

        The V8 R8 does not suck, it's a pretty fantastic car with a really great exhaust note. I did a rally earlier this year and one of the other cars was an R8 V8 with the manual transmission. We did some, uh, straight line testing and my 6MT 135i (fully stock) was dead even with it so yes it is kinda slow but it's still a ridiculously awesome car. The owner said it's actually his daily car! Pretty cool guy.

        The R Tronic sequential manual gearbox was really the weak link in the car so it's great they finally get it the dual clutch transmission it deserves, I can't believe it took them this long to do it!

        They weren't at the time and the R8 is a mid-engine car.

        The V8 doesn't suck by any means.

        They also do sell competing products.
