    • Direct 1/4 mile comparison between ESS VT1-535 and ESS VT2-625 E9X M3 S65 V8 supercharger kits

Finally we have a direct dragstrip comparison between the ESS VT1-535 and ESS VT2-625 supercharger kits. The 535 kit runs less boost and is not intercooled like the VT2-625. The VT1-535 M3 belongs to BimmerBoost member LostMarine who is running higher boost thanks to a smaller pulley which is not included in the standard kit and meth injection.

The difference between the two is 3 miles per hour and 3/10's of a second in the 1/4. Definitely a difference, but not all that large. The more affordable VT1-535 kit shows it is a great bang for the buck option. This is also the fastest record VT1-535 kit 1/4 mile time.

Both cars are DCT, slip is below.

Now, onto my confusion. Does sticky mean " direct " comparison as in you guys were both at the track at the same day ? Cuz if your car has an upgraded pulley and meth, wouldn't that make you a bit faster than a normal 535 kit ? So is the pulley you're using a custom size ( what's the difference in psi from the stock 535 kit and the pulley you have ? ) ? I ask cuz if i'm understanding correctly, the only thing separating you from a higher kit is an ic, tune, and a bit smaller pulley right ?

I want to be clear i'm not trying to take anything from you or start drama. I'm just trying to get an understanding of your setup and just how much faster/stronger your car is over a regular 535 kit. Like are you using the meth for safety because you have the pulley upgrade without having a retune ? Have you ran your car with dr's before your meth and pulley upgrade ?

Sorry if the questions are confusing. That was the best way I could put them together lol. I've seen you post so you don't seem like the type to get psycho over people asking about your mods. So I fig'd eh, might as well ask.

i have methanol, but im almost certain it was off for that run, i was trying to drain down the pumpgas so i could go get some racefuel.

my boost- stock is 103mm pulley, i was at 5.5 psi with that. made 470hp. now, ess offers an upgraded pulley for the 535 guys, approx .5 psi. this is the 99mm pulley. im not positive if its from a 575 kit, but 99 mm is what its supposed to be.

the upgraded one i have, is only 102 mm, 1 mm smaller. Ive watched boost and its .5-.8 more psi. i have not had a chance to redyno and log it to be sure though. there has been no other changes to my tuning. ive asked, plenty of times.

exhaust, well.. I have an X pipe off ebay, $450 shipped.. my rear exhaust? stock rear section/mufflers, but with cutouts prior to mufflers for the sound.. and drag radials.. performance wise thats it.. unless you consider heavy front wheels..

so, i was going to install the upgraded pulley that 1sickm had installed when he did his 11.4 run, but as i said, the spacing is different.

for the comparison, yes, these cars were run literally at the same time, not another 535 car, but the other cars. Everyone keeps saying it was bad DA.. well, it wasnt great, but it was normal.. it was a normal day

Matter of fact, this was my best ET and MPH ever, and ive been to atco 5 or 6 times in the past 2 months.. so its really better conditons than I anticipated

all of this is pretty well documented here. every time i went to the atco, i posted it here

        Thanks for the info !

Those were exactly the answers I was looking for ! Sorry I didn't do enough diligence and search out your setup on my own. I appreciate you taking the time to inform me. Man I live 8 mins from Atco ! Lol I wish I would have known so I could see your car run. Eh, maybe next time. Congrats again on the time man, you make this 535 kit SHINE !

Cool, I was confused cuz I didn't know how much better his car was with the added mods. Now that he's stated them, it's diffused all of my confusion. Thanks.

^^^^^machine shop Though, the proper pulleys should simply fit??

Nice results. You guys need to break into the 10s soon - our drag radials are getting bored. Click here to enlarge

there is a space on my kit that i was warned about. i thought it was propoganda, but its not. I varies from older to newer kits i believe.

That was my car in the vids. Its a DCT, ESS 625 kit with Gintani Catless exhaust and Borla mufflers. My meth was off all day since I discovered at a previous track sessions that its slow my car down out of the hole. Its very minor (less than 1/10). I did some minor weight reduction to stay in line with M33's car since he has lighter front wheels (BBS FI's) and a CF trunk. I took out approx 75lbs (passenger seats, rear seat head rests and bottom cushions). I did leave the rear seat backs in. I also wanted to make my car comparable in weight with the VAC car since they have race seats in the front. Yes, Lost Marine did break my 535 non intercooled record. Way to go Steve!

so would I! I dont think VF is into all the pulley swapping though, so we would just have to make sure boost is equal

        Amazing runs man!

You really proved that just because one starts off with an entry level kit, it's still very possible to have QUITE a bit of fun and achieve amazing results. I think we can all admit that seeing the huge builds on all the forums can be rather tempting, but it's nice to see someone start with a "lesser" kit and make great achievements!

I can't wait to see what else you have planned! Hopefully you can have a bit more fun before our winters hit!

On another, your car sounds down right menacing and brutal! I don't think I can even hear some of the others cars that you run, haha.

Again, props to everyone going out there, pulling great times, and having fun!
