• Champion Motorsport 997 GT3 RS MKI custom bored and stroked 4.2 liter flat-6 hits 485 wheel horsepower

PorscheBoost member Lock N Load has been documenting his absolutely jaw dropping 997 GT3 build by Champion Motorsport. In addition to suspension and interior work he chose to have Champion build him a custom 4.2 liter flat-6 motor. Now the 997 GT3 RS MKI was already putting out a healthy amount of power from its 3.6 liter with a baseline of 396 wheel horsepower. That is over 100 wheel horsepower per liter, simply outstanding.

What did it put out at 4.2 (4.17 to be exact) liters? 485 wheel horsepower for a gain of 89 wheel horsepower. That is all motor folks, simply phenomenal.

To put this in perspective a factory 997.2 GT3 RS 3.8 puts out 419 wheel horsepower and the 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0 puts out 457 wheel horsepower. This exceeds the 4.0 by almost 30 wheel horsepower and Champion is not finished. They have been testing different sized throttle bodies and trying to get every last pony. With a weight in the 2800 pound range suffice it to say this car is going to move.

This build gives us a preview of what the next generation GT3 will be able to hit as this is essentially the maximum from the flat-6. Maybe 500 wheel can be cracked but we are reaching the absolute limit. We wish to congratulate Champion Motorsport and our member Lock N Load for this incredible build and the great results so far. Simply phenomenal work.

That is beautiful ranger!

Not all of your images imported as you posted them with tags on the end after .jpg. Just link me to the pics and I'll fix it for you.

Also, I think I will feature this build on the front page but do you have any dyno numbers?

Ranger, your images had tags on the end. Here, let me explain:

You posted this image which showed and it looked like this:

The images that did not show looked like this:

I highlighted the problem area in what you are doing in red. All you have to do is eliminated the text on the end there after the .jpg and they will post fine. As I said, I don't mind helping you and would like to feature this build.

Not a problem at all Jay.
Sweet RS, green is so special for this car. Congrats on the acquisition. Time to start tracking.
btw awesome home and property.

As I said the 4.2L engine is built. The complete tranny re-gearing (with Guard gears) is being done this week. Guard LSD (60/40) also part of the drivetrain. Still studying whether beefed up axles will be added to the project.
Dyno testing will be done with tuning for multiple maps/files and test various M&M header/exhaust systems (catted vs catless).

Final goals are to go to Sebring track with my built RS, a factory 4.0L RS and a 3.8L RS and have pro driver Lucas Luhr wring them all out and make a comparo track test. Right now Excellence mag and Car & Driver are interested. Fingers crossed for a good eventful outcome.
June will be an interesting month.

The latest exhaust version to test arrived yester day.
This is M&M's recommendation for GT3/RS's with > 500 hp. This to match cam set up and match exhaust ports.
Header tubes are 55 mm, collectors are 90 mm and exhaust pipes are 90 mm to center resonator. No cats.
This new system will be compared to the currently used M&M catted system.

This post was formatted perfectly, well done.

I do not understand why more people do not talk about the M&M exhaust that is beautiful.

M&M exhausts from Germany have been around for over a decade. They build more system and are untilized more by racing teams, especially in Europe than any other.
They offer over a dozen exhaust designs for Porsche's. They will also work with you to build you what you want / need utilizing your input and contributing their recommendation based on their experience.
My system was designed for my application and now marketed.
IMHO they are the best. All other companies give you their cookie cutter system off the shelf, one size fits all mentality.
It drives me nuts when all these guys wet their shorts over "Akcrap" but NEVER do the research nor even include M&M in the discussion when considering a system.

Here's the new clutch to mate with the engine build. It's a triple-disk carbon clutch setup. Another Champion Motorsport researched component.

As long as the last thing in the image is .jpg it will work.

Where are you hosting your images?

I'm guessing champion developed this clutch through their racing program?

Notice he said "Champion-researched," not "Champion-developed."

This looks like the RPS Triple Carbon Clutch used on 996/7 TTs and GTx variants.
